Did you ever try Love in Contract? The main character's flatmate is gay (but supporting cast only, I think). I only made it through a couple of episodes because the premise didn't really appeal, but I did appreciate the representation.

Yes, I did try it, for the same reason - I heard that one of the supporting characters was openly gay and wanted to see how it was done. He was great. But I watched only the 1st episode. Like you I didn't find the premise appealing. And I found the male lead and the female lead rather boring.
