I haven’t written anything fanfic related in two months. I haven’t read any fanfic in that time, either. There were many reasons for that. I even wrote a whole sad rant about it, but then I got it out of my system, so I don’t need to post it anymore. 😊 Eh, whatever, I don’t care what other people do, I like writing fanfic. I will be doing it now and in the future, hopefully for a very long time. It relaxes me, and it brings me joy. Writing fanfic helped me during very hard times in my life. I wrote my one longish fic (that Big Dragon mafia AU) when I was tired and miserable because of work, and it helped me tremendously to have something else that my mind could focus on. And I even added something to one of my WIPs yesterday. Just 50 words, but hey, it’s a start.


Absolute Value of Romance

I enjoyed what I watched so far, it was funny, especially our heroine’s webnovel with all those familiar, OTT BL tropes thrown together in such an entertaining way.

But I’m thinking about maybe dropping it, since episode 8 makes it obvious that they will go in the direction I didn’t want them to go.

And that direction is a romance between Yeo Eui Ju and Ga Woo Su. I don’t care about their age gap, and I don’t really mind student/teacher romances. I just find it so boring. There were hints before, but I thought that maybe it will just stay as subtext. But no, it’s unfortunately fully textual now. She found him unexpectedly warm and caring when she was sick, and she starts daydreaming about him. He starts finding her entertainingly quirky and irrational, not just annoying. And the teaser for the next episode only shows more of that. Meh… If at least they would make one of the teachers canonically gay, not just in Eui Ju’s BL novel. But I’m pretty sure they won’t.

Only Friends Dream On

Well, that was a tempest in a teapot. Seriously, all this over what, one hug? Not even a kiss? Really? And I kinda get why both Tua and Jack would react like that after seeing this vid. But why Arnold and Dean didn’t both tell their respective boyfriends that a charged moment like this had happened? Especially Arnold.

It really seems like drama for drama’s sake, because it was a 9th episode and we needed to throw a wrench in our couples’ happiness, I guess.

But episode 10 was much better. But first let me get shallowness out of the way - Pod looks so, so gorgeous, wow. And now I want his character to get together with Papang’s Dan from the 1st season. I hope someone will write this fic, because I don’t think it will happen in canon. 😊

But the best scene in this episode was definitely Nick and Boston’s conversation. Everything about it was so good. Nick’s “I don't think anyone could treat me worse than you did” to Boston, but said calmly, with maybe a tinge of wistfulness... And the look in Boston’s eyes – regret, a little bit of guilt, too, and a lot of aching longing for what might have been and what he himself destroyed. Neo’s acting was first class here.

And of course I loved little Ohm’s cameo as Nick’s new boyfriend.

Phantom Lawyer

I started to watch this show on a whim, and it was such a delightful surprise for me. A lovely and cute drama full of heartwarming and funny moments, with a lot of wonderful characters played by good actors. I loved it. I still have the last episode to watch, and I kinda keep postponing it, because I’m sure it will make me cry buckets.


And I will leave you with two very different trailers. First we have a new kdrama on Netflix (it starts airing on May 15) – a superhero comedy about three ordinary people that are suddenly granted supernatural abilities due to a mysterious accident. With a lot of actors I love, especially Park Eun Bin.



And then we have a historical fantasy BL drama from China – court intrigues, bloody power struggles, beautiful princes, a lot of fighting, and a lot of kissing, too. And since this is Chinese BL, expect heaps of angst and tears, and very probably someone dying tragically, too. And the secondary couple looks to be exactly to my tastes – full of loyalty kink and kinky NC scenes. 😊

The last two weeks were hard, because my mom is sick. It’s not Covid this time, thankfully, only pharyngitis, but really vicious one. She finally feels a bit better this week, but she’s still weak and coughing a lot.

To de-stress I watched a lot of dramas, old and new. I re-watched a little bit of my favorite GL drama Affair and my perfect comfort BL drama A Boss and a Babe. I keep up to date with Girl Rules (I love Sasha to pieces, Milk is so talented and gorgeous and sexy, and I even softened a little on Bambi, even though she’s still occasionally very annoying), and with my new favorite BL drama Life in Smokey Blue (it’s so good and, for now, very relaxing to watch with it’s unhurried tempo and a soft slice-of-life plot). And I still very much enjoy Phantom Lawyer. It’s not a perfect show, but it’s very heart-warming and emotionally engaging. Let me quote the Dramabeans review for episodes 11-12 here, because yes, I absolutely agree.

Again, I think the show always sticks its landing somehow — thematically fitting, emotionally poignant, visually beautiful — but it took so many detours and weird loops to get there. It’s like getting the right answer using the wrong equation. Nevertheless, I think most of us are watching for the cute and funny dynamics of the characters along with a good dose of heartwarming moments, and in that regard, the show delivers.

I also still like Only Friends Dream On a lot, especially Rome and Raffy, and their sexy and complicated situationship. But I have to admit that this season doesn’t do it for me the same way the 1st season did. It’s just a lot less messy. And I wanted messy. I expected messy. And really nastily messy, and not just a minor conflict here and there.

It’s the 8th episode and nobody from fixed ships shared even one measly kiss with someone other than their ship partner. It’s disappointing. By the time the 4th episode of Only Friends aired we already had Force and Neo’s car sex scene, and Book and Khaotung sharing a kiss in the flashback. And later we also got First and Mark, First and Force, and of course Mond kissing boys left and right.

We still have four episodes to go, so there’s still a chance it could change, but somehow I doubt it. I was so sure they would go there with Arnold and Dean in episode 7 and let them at least have an ill-advised drunken kiss if not a hookup. But no, nothing happened.

But wow, Rome and Raffy’s sex in the woods was so hot. *fans self* And their relationship is the only one that gives me all that messiness I craved. Raffy in episode 8 was such an asshole, damn. But I still love him. And my poor, poor Rome, with so much pining and suffering. He’s already so in love and he could barely hide it. Until he finally couldn’t, and he spilled his feelings all over Raffy in a painful, shouting confession.

And you know what, when I got over my disappointment over the lack of desired messiness, I freely admitted that Arnold and Tua were really sweet together. 😊 And surprisingly mature. They did had this conflict about Tua paying Arnold for being in the play. But they got over it. It was really refreshingly mature – Tua apologized and explained why he did it. Arnold took a few days to think it over, and then decided that he’s ready to forgive Tua. I liked that.

And episode 8 also gave me something I’ve been waiting for. Top and Mew, yay!!! Being a power couple and so beautifully happy together. 😍

One more thing was good for de-stressing, too, lately. And it is something I watch very rarely – a variety show. This one is called Running Man Thailand. I’ve never watched the original Korean show, but I started to watch this one because of all those familiar faces in the cast. It has Jeff Satur, Tay Tawan, Daou Pittaya and NuNew Chawarin. They all are regular members. But as guests the show also had Billkin, Off Jumpol, Zee Pruk, Namtan, Becky Armstrong, Mos and Bank, and Offroad Kantapon. The show is ridiculous, entertaining, and it’s always nice to look at so many pretty BL boys and GL girls together, taking part in silly competiotions, and making each other laugh. 😊

It airs on iQIYI, but one week later every episode is available with English subs on Youtube. For now there are eight episodes available there. Here is the official playlist.

My elbow continues hurting, no changes there. And sometimes my right arm aches, too, now. I made an appointment with my orthopedist, but I would be really grateful if my body gave me a break, at least for a while. *sigh*

On the drama watching front - I still haven’t watched the latest episode of Girl Rules yet (Sasha is always the best, Bambi is still very annoying). But I am keeping up to date with Phantom Lawyer, which continues to be good and very enjoyable in a touching and funny and sweet way, and Only Friends Dream On, which is very enjoyable in a sexy, toxic and messy way.

The title of these two episodes should be “Everybody is jealous”. Heh...

Tua is jealous about Arnold and Dean, even though he doesn’t want to admit it to himself. Jack of course is jealous of the same thing because of Dean. And wow, Jack seemed like an okay guy at first, in like the first two episodes. The most normal and decent out of all of them. But now, wow… He’s starting to show more and more of red color. He’s insanely jealous and super possessive of Dean. Even though he doesn’t even want to admit that they did get together again. And you know what, I like it. Give me all this messiness and toxicity, show. And I think Dean likes that Jack is so completely obsessed with him. And that it turns him on.

And Rome is furiously jealous about Raffy making bedroom eyes at Boston. And then in ep 6 it’s Raffy’s turn to get jealous over Rome and Pete.

And of course I enjoyed so much ForceBook cameo in ep 5. It’s good to know that Mew and Top are still happy together.

And this new kdrama looks potentially funny and entertaining. It’s called Absolute Value of Romance and it’s about an ordinary high school student who secretly writes BL web novels. Her works barely get any views until four new handsome teachers arrive at her school, and become her muses. You can find more information about the plot on Dramabeans here.

I love Prim, even though I shake my head over her pretending, and badly, that she doesn’t care about her ex. She so cares. She still has feelings for Bambi.

For now Bambi irritates me. She spoiled and immature, and tramples all over Prim’s boundaries, not that those boundaries are very strong, but still. She’s like Ray from Only Friends for me. Only less self-destructive. I think.

I love Sasha. Milk is gorgeous and Sasha is such a cool character. And Love is good as Gorya, and she has great chemistry with both Milk and Namtan. I hope Love and Namtan will kiss at least once. Please, give it to me, show. 😊

View is so beautiful, but her and Mim’s storyline is the least interesting to me. But it’s just the 1st episode, so who knows I might change my mind later.

That was amazing and I love this drama already. And Aou and Boom... Damn... So, so hot. Rome and Raffy are definitely my favorites. They are messy, toxic and hot like burning together. I love them so much. And yes, they are my favorites, but Dean is not far behind them. Mix is fantastic. He’s seductive, manipulative, gorgeous and sexy. And such a smug jerk. I love him, too.

And I’m very surprised at how much I like Joss and Gawin here. I found them rather meh in My Golden Blood, which I dropped after two episodes. But here I like them.

And that’s it for now, since it’s already 10 p.m. here. Might write more tomorrow after re-watching. But I’m so pleased that it is good and very entertaining. 😍

RL is meh. My hip is much better, but the rest is ugh. My elbow was a bit better and then I overdid it by writing two more treats for Candy Hearts. I feel very accomplished now of course, but at what cost. *sigh* And I am now officially diagnosed with hypertension. And I have new meds, but I think my intestines don’t like them, so I have to make another appointment with my cardiologist. *sigh again*

And the weather is ugh, too – it’s dark, rainy and gloomy. All this pretty white snow that was here just a few days ago now took form of dirty, brown slush. One good thing is that last week we discovered a great new sushi place. Everything was very yummy, and we plan to eat there the next week, too.


Because of all of the reasons above, the things I did watch lately were mostly cute and fluffy, because I’m so not in the mood for anything angsty or depressing. And those cute things were:

Cat For Cash - Thai BL drama with pretty boys and talking cats, what’s not to like? 😊

My Romance Scammer - another Thai BL drama about two scammers (one who is good at what he does, and one who is really not) who fall for their marks – two cousins from a very rich family. 2 episodes aired for now and I really liked them. Junior is fantastic, and this is the first drama of the new ship OhmPoon, and I enjoy them so much here.

I Wanna Be Sup'tar - Thai GL drama about the romance between a famous and rich, but very unhappy girl and a poor girl with dreams about a big career in the entertainment industry. The 1st episode aired last week and I liked it. It’s cheesy and fun and I really like the main ship Lilly and Belle (who were the secondary ship in Harmony Secret).

Read, White & Royal Blue - I finally watched this movie yesterday, and I enjoyed it so much. It was cute, sexy, funny and touching. Alex and Henry are very adorable and hot together, and I love them to pieces. I’m so glad there will be a sequel. And I might try reading the book again, because I did try reading it a few years ago, and managed maybe 20 or 30 pages, because I found it rather bad. But that might be because I was reading a Polish translation. Will try the original this time.


Not so cute was the finale of Burnout Syndrome. It was a good drama, but I was rather disappointed with the ending. Even though I did expect an ending exactly like that. Since it is a Thai BL drama with a very popular fixed ship.

Spoilers here (and it's all complaining).

Because really, they want me to, what? Cheer for Koh and Jira to be happy together? Feel sorry for Koh? I don’t feel sorry for a tech bro obsessed with AI, who still can’t understand why his lover, whom he professes to love so much, was angry at him about what he did. Koh still seems to think that this was just such a small thing and that Jira was overreacting. And he still blames everyone else for him being miserable. It’s never something he did, it’s always someone else’s fault.

And that ending felt so empty and boring to me. And I read a few opinions and some people seem to think this was not a happy ending and that viewers should wonder if Koh and Jira will stay together in the future. But to me, I think the drama does actually mean for us to believe they have a chance at a long-term relationship. It was filmed like a straightforward romance with appropriate music, and all that.

And earlier there was this song playing at one time over Jira’s image – “I will be his angel, I will be his savior”. And Pheem told Jira that Koh sold his AI interests like it’s supposed to be a good thing, and something that redeems Koh.

And don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that Koh is a monster and Jira is a blameless angel. Jira is toxic, too. And I even can believe that Koh in his own way loves Jira. But for Jira – ehhh... All I can see is sexual lust and desire to keep Koh as his Muse. Also they are both obsessed with money. After all one of Jira's first lines in the first episode is: "I'll do anything that pays". So who knows maybe they will live happily ever after. It’s just that I personally didn’t really care about that.

Mix as a seductive manipulator, Earth looking gorgeous in glasses, my beloveds AouBoom being toxic and messy and hot as hell (that scene in the pool, wow... *fans self*), and Boston coming back to stir the pot even more. I already love it. 27th of February can’t come soon enough.

My elbow still hurts, can’t really write for long. I made an appointment for another physiotherapy session the next week. I hope it will help.

It’s a lovely movie with Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In, and I enjoyed it a lot. They both have such sweet, beautiful smiles. 😊

Yumi’s Cells

I finished the 1st season last week. It was fine and occasionally amusing, but I would have dropped it half-way if not for my love for Kim Go Eun. I started to get very bored during the last two episodes. For now I don’t plan to watch the next two seasons.

Trigger

A decent first half, a weak second half and a very disappointing finale. Kim Nam Gil was good, but his character to me felt like a less charismatic version of Kim Hae Il from The Fiery Priest. The main villain was very hot, but less and less interesting with each episode.

And if the point of the show is that guns are awful and very dangerous, then wow does that message gets muddled by all those scenes that emotionally feel like they want viewers to admire out main hero’s perfect and beautifully choreographed shooting skills, or cheer on the abused victims who use guns to get their very their justifiable revenge, after we watched countless scenes of them being horribly abused.

It was supposed to be a longer post, but my right elbow really hates me today. Because yesterday I suddenly decided that I really wanted to make gifs from my favorite scene in 10Dance. I wanted to make four gifs. I managed to make two, and I’m still paying the price for that lapse in judgment. Ouch, ouch, ouch...

But at least we now have a proper snowy winter here, which is nice. Won’t last for long since it’s already 0°C today. And it was -20°C on the New Year’s Eve. In the evening I went to see a free outdoor concert our city organizes every year, and it was so freezing cold that I only stayed for an hour.

And I have a few lovely comments on my Yuletide fics, but responding will have to wait till tomorrow, because my elbow is already screaming at me that it hurts.

So it seems I slept through the great deanoning of Yuletide, heh. Meaning that there was a glitch that revealed all the authors for a short while, soon after works reveal. I missed it, since I was too tired to read my gift right away on 24th, and didn’t even look at the Yuletide collection then.

I received a lovely and funny Meet You at the Blossom fic about my favorite threesome. This is basically Outsider POV fic even though the author didn’t tag it as such. But I love Ousider POV fics, and I enjoyed Que Siming’s sarcastic comments and Jinbao’s sweet cluelessness here a lot.

Apart from reading Yuletide fics, yesterday I watched Exhuma, that horror movie with Kim Go Eun I mentioned before. It was pretty good and Kim Go Eun was wonderful. And it was tense and gory, but goriness was on an acceptable level for me, so I didn’t even have to fast-forward.

I also started Yumi’s Cells, because I wanted something cute and fluffy after Exhuma. I watched an episode and a half, and it’s fine and amusing at times, but for now I’m not very emotionally engaged. I do plan to watch more though, because I’m still very much in my ‘in love with Kim Go Eun’ phase, and she’s so good, and sweet and pretty here.


I also watched the new episodes of Burnout Syndrome (very good) and Dare You to Death (rather meh). But wow, Joong and Dunk both look exceptionally beautiful in this drama, so for now I will be watching for this one very shallow reason. 😊

I also wanted to rec a Youtube vid with Dew, Gun, and Off’s reaction to episode 5 of Burnout Syndrome, because it’s very funny, and it made me laugh. More with the embedded vid behind the cut, because thumbnail images are spoilery for the last episode.

I enjoyed this vid so much. From Gun commenting about his and Dew’s height difference and saying “I literally only come up to his shoulders”. To the three of them arguing about who’s the biggest red flag in this episode, and both Off and Dew saying it’s Jira, because he fools and manipulates both Koh and Pheem. And to Off first getting hilariously jealous over Dew and Gun’s romantic scenes, and then cheering Dew on during the last scene. And all three reacted to the ending of this episode the same way all the viewers reacted: “That’s it? It ends like this? That’s so mean.” 😊

My elbow hurts a bit less today, so here have a short drama watching report. Plus a very short review of one movie. 😊

The Price of Confession

It was amazing till the end. I was a tiny bit disappointed with ‘who the real murderer is’ reveal, but really just a teeny tiny bit. It didn’t detract from the amazingness of the rest of the drama. And Kim Go Eun, wow... 😍 What a fantastic actress she is. I mean I knew she was good, but here it’s like another level. I’m very impressed and so in love.

You can say Kim Go Eun is my new obsession, since after finishing this drama I instantly watched Love in the Big City (a movie with her and Steve Noh, not a drama with Nam Yoon Su). Now I plan to watch a horror movie Exhuma, and later I will either re-watch The King Eternal Monarch, or start watching You And Everything Else.


10 Dance

It was wonderful. Machida Keita and Takeuchi Ryoma have sizzling chemistry, and for my non-expert eye are very good at dancing. And they are very good at kissing, too. 😊 I will be re-watching for sure, probably more than once.

The ending seems a bit open. In the sense that it ended as if the sequel was already planned. As far as I know the manga this movie is based on is still ongoing, so here is hoping we will get a sequel in the future.


Dare You to Death

Okay, it feels so weird to watch GMMTV BL drama on Netflix instead of Youtube, heh. But that way it’s not divided into four short vids, so it’s a big plus.

After the 1st episode my opinion is this – it’s entertaining and amusing. I admit I did expect something a bit more darker and grimmer. And judging by that first episode it’s seems to have a surprisingly light, and often even humorous tone, considering the subject matter.

But the main criminal mystery is interesting enough, supporting character are played by actors I like, and both Joong and Dunk look hella fine and have great chemistry. So I do plan to watch more. And it’s nice to have a BL drama to watch on Thursdays.


Heated Rivalry

I’ve just finished watching the 5th episode. It was fine. I wish I liked Shane and Ilya (well, mainly Ilya, I like Shane well enough) and their relationship more, so I could be again in a big, thriving fandom with a lot of fics and discussions. Alas, it was not meant to be, since here I am once again falling in love with a rare pairing. 😊

I wish there was a bit more about Scott and Kip in this episode. I would be satisfied even with one or two short scenes. Because what I loved the most here was that last scene with the kiss on ice. It was wonderful.

I also really liked Shane and Rose’s talk when they break up and he comes out to her. It was very well done and very well acted. I love Rose in general, she’s a great character.
