I’m watching:
Boys in Love
The 1st episode was very cute and charming. But yep, I am watching this one for PodPapang and the secondary teachers pairing. They are both great here. And already look so good together.
But all the kids are adorable, too. And they look so young that my auntly instinct gets activated and I want to hug them and pat them on their cute little heads. 😊
I’m very pleased. I like having a fluffy Sunday BL drama to watch, and that one fits the bill perfectly.
Leap Day
It’s a GMMTV drama with Pond, Dew and Gun about two guys born on February 29 who are plagued by a terrible curse - every four years one person close to them ends up dying in some terrible accident. Now they have to team up if they want to find out why all this is happening and how to stop it.
Three episodes aired for now and I like it a lot. Gun is good as always, but Pond is very good here, too. I’m excited to watch more.
I dropped:
Resident Playbook
Such a pity. I was very excited for this drama since this is a spin off drama for Hospital Playlist, and I loved Hospital Playlist. But I watched two and a half episode and decided not to watch more. Out of four main characters I find three very boring and one actively annoying. I liked a few secondary characters, but they are not enough to make me want to watch more. Neither are cameos from Hospital Playlist characters.
I don’t know which kdrama I want to try next. Maybe Undercover Highschool? Or The Art of Negotiation, because silver haired Lee Je Hoon tempts me. 😊
I finished:
Sadistic Love

If you think that this poster makes it look like a love triangle where the female lead and the second male lead are vying for the male lead’s affection, well, you’d be right. 😊
This is one of those short cdramas with episodes that are only 10-15 minutes long. But, wow do I enjoyed this one. It was so campy, so OTT and so entertaining. With angsty and tragic BL undertones. Which were, and that was very surprising to me, canon, not just subtext. I know these mini dramas are for sure granted more leniency from censors than mainstream dramas. But still it was quite shocking to me what they managed to get away with.
It takes place during the Republican Era. The male lead He Zheng comes back to his hometown after five years. Now he’s a powerful warlord who wants to avenge his mother’s death. When He Zheng was a teenager his mother became a concubine of rich merchant He Molin. And Zheng was adopted into the He Family. He and his stepsister Anran fell in love. But of course He Molin didn’t accept his only daughter’s relationship with a poor boy. And then the tragedy struck and He Zheng’s mother died. He Zheng is convinced that He Molin was responsible for her death, and that Anran betrayed him, too.
Now He Zheng is back with money and power and he wants to avenge his mother’s death by taking He Molin’s fortune from him, and by forcing Anran to marry him.
The third main character is Mo Yutang who was once a poor starving orphan boy. He was saved by He Zheng and very clearly instantly fell in love with him. Later a lot of bad things happened to him and he blames He Zheng for all of them. And now he’s also back in the town as a beautiful opera performer, with cruelty and hatred for He Zheng in his heart, and with diabolical plans for revenge.
Listen, I was mainly into tragic BL undertones of course. Because just look at them:

And this is a scene from later in the drama.

But I enjoyed the main het romance, too. ML and FL have nice chemistry and both are decent actors. And it was pretty raunchy for a cdrama. As I’ve said above – they got away with a lot.
Also the main lead Dai Gao Zheng is gorgeous and clearly has in his contract at least one shirtless scene per episode. 😉
And nobody can tell me that the creators weren’t kinking on half-sibling incest between He Zheng and He Anran. Because yes, there was that statement of ‘we are step siblings’ in the beginning. But if I remember correctly they said it exactly once. And before and after everybody treats it as half-siblings situation. And I mean everybody. The He family treats it that way, we see random people on the street gossip a few times that the new governor married his sister (not step sister, just sister). He Zheng and Anran think of themselves as siblings, too. It really looks like they wanted it to be a forbidden love between half-siblings, so they wrote that one sentence about step siblings as a “see, nothing incesty is happening here” for the censors. 😊

Two more gifs here, because they look so good together and their chemistry is fire.
This is how He Zheng looks when he sees Mo Yutang for the first time after their five years separation.

More with major spoilers here.
Everything that happened to Mo Yutang makes him a woobiest woobie of then all. He was a starving orphan on the streets. He witnessed a main villain killing He Zheng’s mother, but he was caught and the villain raped him and branded Yutang with his ring. And yes, it was undoubtedly rape, and again, they showed as much as they could. And later when he wanted to go to He Zheng and tell him everything, he was beaten viciously by the servants who thought he was a beggar and who didn’t let him see He Zheng at all. And because of that beating he lost one leg.And nobody can tell me that the creators weren’t kinking on half-sibling incest between He Zheng and He Anran.
