Yuletide is so big that it takes a lot of the pressure off. You can kind of go in knowing that normally very few people will see your story right away (because, small fandoms and lots of fics being posted) so as long as the recipient likes it, it's a win. Plus it's nice to flex writing muscles. Plus you're contributing to a small fandom which needs more works. I wrote for Monstress last year and at the time there were literally 3 fics in the archive. Mine then became 25% of all the posted work (lol). So any Monstress fan checking the archive would have 25% more fic to choose from!
