I love my country, I really do. But living here is so hard sometimes. Right now every time I read the news I’m either getting angry or I want to cry. At least me and my family are all healthy, which is a big comfort.

And thank God for Netflix, VIKI and fandom. They provide a necessary distraction and a lot of comfort, too. Today is Trick or Treat works reveal (well, tomorrow for me) and I hope I’ll find something to read besides my gift. And I got my Yuletide assignment, so I have something to fret over besides RL. :)

Things I watched:

The Boys in the Band (Netflix)

I liked it a lot and I watched it twice this week. It makes me want to re-watch the 1970 version, but I only have it on VHS recorded from TV. I’ll have to see if it’s available to buy somewhere.

Mart Crowley’s play was very important to 21 years old me, when I saw it for the first time in 1992 at the theatre in Warsaw. 21 years old me didn’t have many opportunities to see gay people on screen or at the theatre in the early nineties in Poland. So to see that play then was a revelation. And it was a great production, wonderfully directed by Romuald Szejd, and wonderfully played by all the actors, but especially Zbigniew Suszyński as Michael and Andrzej Chyra as Emory. And with those beautiful clothes designed by Bernard Hanaoka, who was a famous Polish fashion designer then. I saw that play five times – twice in 1992, and then three more times next year.

Remember (VIKI)

After I finished Hot Stove League I started another Nam Goong Min’s drama on VIKI. "Remember" is in part a crime drama, in part a courtroom drama. The main character Seo Jin Woo tries to save his father, who was wrongfully accused of murder and put on death row. Nam Goon Min plays a villain this time. It’s not a spoiler, we know he’s a villain right away. And he’s fantastic, and so beautiful and cruel, and evil. I get all tingly every time he’s on screen. :) I will watch him loose with the same pleasure I watched him win in Chief Kim and Hot Stove League.

Ambition – it’s here on Youtube

It’s the short film (only 6 minutes long) created in 2014 by Tomasz Bagiński (a very talented Polish illustrator, animator, and director) in collaboration with European Space Agency to celebrate their pioneer Rosetta mission. It has two actors, and one of them is Aidan Gillen. I found it while browsing Yuletide’s tag set on AO3. It’s very beautiful visually and creates an interesting story in such a short time.
