Chinese crime dramas and random recs

Yesterday was a bad day. I didn’t feel well, my heart was bothering me the whole day. One good thing is that I work from home this week, it would be worse at the office. Here I could at least lie down for a while during the day.

Luckily it was also the day of two new episodes of The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty. That drama is my happy place right now. I love it to pieces and it always cheers me up. But I also kind of regret that I started to watch it without waiting until it aired in full. Because I watched those two new episodes yesterday, and I was so impatient to watch the next one right away. And I couldn’t. But two new episodes again today, so yay for that. :)


I planned to start My Roommate is a Detective this week – another Chinese historical crime drama, this time the one set in the mid-1920s. But I think I’ll wait until it finishes airing and all subtitled episodes are available on VIKI.


Youku put the whole season of SCI Mystery officially on youtube, unfortunately without English subtitles. The playlist is here. Here is hoping they will add subtitles later. It would be nice to have the official subtitled version that you can point interested people to.


In between checking my business e-mail I was also doing some bookmarks cleaning today. So here are a few random fanworks recs.

That was a very entertaining show, and it was such a nice surprise when they made that relationship canon in the 2nd season.

Ah, my favorite psycho killers in love. That show was pretty bad, but that threesome pushed all my buttons – it was complicated, fucked up, dark, angsty and with no happy ending. I loved it very much.

The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty is lovely! I watched the first four episodes this weekend when I had absolutely no brain for anything I was already invested in, and I liked it a lot. Will definitely continue at some point.

Oh, and I also tried My Roommate is a Detective, but stopped after two episodes or so because I didn't like the dynamic between the main characters.

And I'm so glad that you like The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty. I'm up to episode 14 for now and it didn't disappoint me yet.

Oh, and I also tried My Roommate is a Detective, but stopped after two episodes or so because I didn't like the dynamic between the main characters.

Oh, and that is disappointing to hear. Everything I read about it till now sounded encouraging. Well, we'll see. Like I've said I've postponed watching it for now.

It was a cool show. I can't really remember now why I started to watch it, but I was very glad that I did. Pity we couldn't have the 3rd season, it would be great to see more of Icarus/Pythagoras.

An SCI rewatch may be in order. >.> There was going to be a second season iirc, but I don't know what's going on with that now, alas.

I was thinking about SCI re-watch, too. I really am in the mood for crime dramas lately. :) And I remember reading about preparations for season 2 last year somewhere on tumblr, but nothing about it in the last months. So who knows when we will get it. Because I still live in hope that we will. :)

I seem to recall foxghost posting something from Gao Hanyu's twitter where he mentioned 'Bai Sir', but that was the last I heard. :( And given both current circumstances and the way things can apparently just sit there without airing for ages, who knows. I'm still hoping they can get most of the cast back for it, if it is going ahead. Gao Hanyu and Ji Xiaobing should be a definite, but I really hope they can get Bai Chi and Zhao Zhen's actors back as well. Ma Han would be good too. The others I'm not fussed about.

Oh, yes, I love Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao, but I really want Bai Chi, Zhao Zhen and Ma Han, too. Well, and Zhao Jue, because he's one of my favorite villains.

And I'm curious about your opinion about My Roommate is a Detective. But I definitely decided to wait for a fully subtitled season on VIKI.
