That have been bad few days. Wednesday was the worst, but I’m still very weak and feeling dizzy. Today I’m feeling a bit better thankfully. I think it’s some post-Covid symptoms. I was ok in April when I was working from home. But I went back to the office in May (it was my decision, I thought I was fine, or at least fine enough) and I think I overdid it with work for the last two weeks and now I’m paying the price.

Vincenzo was my one bright spot in these last few days. I’ve watched 10 episodes already. And I love it. It’s ridiculous, shameless and entertaining. And Song Joong Ki is very pretty and very good. One of the supporting characters describes him once as “doe-eyed and handsome”. And he is that for sure.

More with major spoilers and my questionable shipping preferences below. :)

I loved the twist at the end of the 4th episode and IMO Ok Taecyeon is great as the main villain. He’s so cruel and manipulative and a total psychopath. I love me a good villain and he is a joy to watch. I never saw that actor in anything else, but I enjoy him so much here.

And yes, I admit, I ship Jang Jun Woo and his half-brother Jang Han Seo. Such a complicated, dark and fucked up sibling relationship is like catnip to me. Jun Woo has a total control over Han Seo. And Han Seo is so afraid of him, but at the same time he just wants to be loved and he wants to please his brother so much. Their scenes together make me shiver with delight. :)

Of course I went to seek fanfic already and I have one rec:

Only You and Me (3012 words) by Run_of_the_mill
Fandom: 빈센조 | Vincenzo
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Jang Joon Woo/Jang Han Seo
Characters: Jang Joon Woo, Jang Han Seo
Additional Tags: Half-Sibling Incest, Emotional/Psychological Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Dubious Consent, Han Seo gives consent, but mostly because he doesn’t want to do anything to upset Joon Woo, Physical Abuse, child abuse
Summary:
“Hyungnim is happy tonight,” Han Seo answered. “And you like my cooking. So, I thought I’d do something nice and make you even happier.” Joon Woo snorted and buried his face in the crook of Han Seo's neck.

“You know it’s not just your cooking that I like, right?” he asked. He tightened his hold around Han Seo’s waist and jerked him back so that they were hip to hip. Han Seo froze. Yes, he was more than well aware of the other things Joon Woo liked about him.

“Later,” said Han Seo, patting Joon Woo's crossed arms on his stomach. “Let me feed you, first.”

Or

Han Seo reflects on his relationship with the man he fears most. That he also happens to be the man Han Seo loves most is no one’s business but Han Seo’s.

I also love Kim Yeo Jin as Choi Myung Hee – a former prosecutor, who now works for a corrupted law firm that protects a corrupted pharmaceutical company that Vincenzo wants to take down. She’s ruthless and intelligent and such a formidable opponent to Vincenzo. I like to watch them trying to outsmart each other.

There is one thing that dimmed my enthusiasm a little, but in the end it wasn’t that bad. It’s this one subplot in episode 8. When it started and I realized what they were doing I stopped the episode and went to read a few reviews to see how bad it gets. Since it didn’t sound as horrible as I expected I decided to continue.

It goes like that – one of the bad guys they want to use to get to the main villain, is the CEO of a bank. He’s gay, and he has a violent temper, and he abused all his former lovers, who couldn’t press charges against him, because they were closeted and afraid to come out in homophobic society. They decide to use Vincenzo to seduce the guy.

I give them one plus for actually going with the idea “the main male character is a honey trap for a bad guy, who is gay”. For a Korean drama that’s quite a lot. But the execution left a lot to be desired and was pretty homophobic. It’s already not good when your one gay character is an abusive monster. But also Vincenzo’s protests after he heard the honey trap idea were just too much. I get that he would protest at first, I don’t mind that, but it went for so long and was filled with so much disgust, and not because the guy was an abusive monster, just because it was a guy. It really looked like a desperate attempt to assure the audience, that no really Vincenzo is really, really straight, see how straight he is. And then after the first seduction scene they gave him a significant, romantic slow-mo moment with a female lead to emphasize again how totally straight he is. *sigh*

But ok, I admit, that first seduction scene was all kinds of wonderful. Who wouldn’t fall in love with Vincenzo after seeing him riding the horse like that, as if he was a beautiful prince from a fairytale? :)

And I’ll give props to the actor playing the bad CEO - Kim Sung Chul. He was good and even momentarily made me feel bad for his character, until I remembered that he was an abusive asshole and he deserved whatever Vincenzo and co decided to do to him.

So like I’ve said, all in all it wasn’t that bad and it didn’t destroy my enjoyment of this ridiculous drama. Now I’m waiting impatiently for Vincenzo to find out who Jang Jun Woo really is. That confrontation will be glorious.
