I want to sign up for RMSE, but my writer’s block right now seems to extend to writing exchange letters, too. :) I want to request two new fandoms and my mind goes completely blank every time I try to think up prompts. I also worry that I won’t have anyone to write for. I still have a few days to make up my mind, so we’ll see.


I finished Not Me. It was a very good drama – well written, well directed and very well acted. I’m especially impressed with Gun Atthaphan Phunsawat. He was great here. I’m thinking about trying one of his other dramas later. Maybe Theory of Love? But first KinnPorsche. And then Why R U for Zee Pruk. And then two Japanese BL dramas, because I find it so amusing that three main actors from Kamen Rider Build went and did BL dramas later. Inukai Atsuhiro of course did A Man Who Defies the World of BL. And Kei x Yaku if you count it as BL. And then Akaso Eiji (who was so wonderful and funny and cute as Banjou Ryuga) did Cherry Magic, which I previously wasn’t interested in, but now I am. And Takeda Kouhei (Sawatari Kazumi) did Old Fashioned Cupcake, which will premiere in June. This drama has a trailer released by Rakuten TV channel on Youtube, so it will most likely be on VIKI. The trailer is here. It looks sweet (pun intended :)).

I also would like to say that Kamen Rider Build itself was very shippy. And I ship Kiryu Sento/Banjou Ryuga hard. They are a great example of antagonists (or at least guys who don’t like each other much at first) to best friends, who love each other and motivate each other, and inspire each other to be a better person. It’s seriously so touching and adorable. As soon as I have a bit more time (maybe on weekend) I plan to dive into AO3 and read some fanfic.


And one more things – a fascinating article on MyDramaList about the processes and techniques of forensic art in the drama Under the Skin. And if you watched it and thought that what Shen Yi did in the drama was exaggerated or impossible – it wasn’t. It’s based on real accomplishments of real life police profilers and portrait artists in China.

If you want to sign-up, no one says you have go great guns on the prompt. I often recycle prompts and provide a list of likes which seems to be the source of most of the stories I receive anyway!

But then you did mention writer's block so...

Oh, that is fascinating! Drawing anything always seems like magic to me, never mind this kind of technical ability. Definitely added the drama to the list of "things I might actually watch someday" (for mostly-non-watcher me that's a pretty positive take...)

I hope the writer's block lets you out of its grip soon! There are probably lists of general prompts/tropes/tags somewhere you could draw on just to get you started writing a request?

Rationally I know that, emotionally I'm all "can't sing up without prompts". :) But you're right - more often than not I got gifts based on my likes and not on specific prompts in the letter.

I hope you'll watch and enjoy Under the Skin one day. It really is a good drama, and relatively short, which is lately a big selling point for me. :)

when I'm feeling that way, I go with prompts for things I know I always enjoy - very tropey kinds of things - and that usually inspires me to add at least one other type of prompt.

Like... my recent prompt for Detective L:

Some tropey goodness for this pair would be lovely, particularly In Vino Veritas, Presumed dead, isolated together, Hurt/Comfort or Mind control/brainwashing/hypnosis NOT perpetrated by Luo Fei or Ben Jieming.

And then I threw in a few more. :D

the processes and techniques of forensic art in the drama Under the Skin.

Yeah, those weren't new to me, either - I've been watching a few forensic shows in the 90s and ready a lot of the Bones books, too, which are heavy on the forensic details. The only thing illogical about Under the Skin in that respect is that he does it all alone and the others seem to have never heard of any of those techniques, and that he does it faster and better than the computer. :D

I haven't read about it before, so it was really fascinating to me. I used to watch and enjoy CSI back in the day, but it was a long time ago and I barely remember anything about it. :)
