Episode 5 was hard to watch. But you make a good point about the narrative: this is all from Claudia’s diaries. It will be interesting to see what kind of spin Louis puts on it when Daniel starts asking questions about it.

I liked Daniel telling Louis that, “once it’s out there, they decide what it means.” Louis might be powerful but he seems kind of naive when it comes to human fanaticism. Which I find weird, given that he’s endured racism and hatred his entire existence, and no amount of “context” or education has ever been able that change that.

He doesn’t seem worried about vampire fanaticism, though. As Rashid tells Daniel, “You’re chronicling a suicide.” Louis knows very well that other vampires will come for him but he doesn’t seem worried. I wonder if that’s because he’s truly tired of his existence, or whether he has some others on his side who are powerful enough to protect him from the mob. He can set stuff on fire with his mind, after all.

And speaking of power, OMG LOUIS CONTROLLING DANIEL’s PARKINSONS TREMORS WITH HIS BRAIN. That slap Daniel gave him was totally deserved.

They also really showcased Lestat’s power in this episode. Until now, I had no idea he could fly. I guess I should have picked up on the foreshadowing during the naked levitation scene in Ep. 1 but I got distracted by the naked part. (Ahem.) Hands up if you think Lestat mind-controlled Paul into killing himself during the family dinner in Ep. 1. *hands*

The special effects of Lestat and Louis in the sky were pretty bad. Obviously that’s not where the show’s budget goes. But I’m okay with that.

Hahahahahaha Daniel gets the best lines! “I’m trying to think of something more fucked up than this,” as he reads Claudia’s kill list - while at the same time Rashid sits on Louis’ lap AT THE DINING ROOM TABLE IN FRONT OF DANIEL and offers up his neck. Not gonna lie, that scene was pretty hot. And I went a bit weak in the knees when Louis called him “My Rashid.”
