Fanfic writing
I guess my brain really wants to write that modern AU for Meet You At The Blossom right now, because I have 2000 words already, 1400 of which is filthy smut. Yay me! I think. 😉 But also argh, it’s shaping up to be another long, for me, fic. Like probably somewhere between 8k and 10k. That one won’t be finished soon for sure.
But I already have four other started MYATB fics now. One has 1500 words and is closest to be finished. The other three fics have around 300-400 words each. Here is hoping I will manage to finish one of those soon. 😊
Drama watching
And what amuses me is the fact that out of all the new dramas on streaming services I’m paying for I decided to start watching a Japanese BL drama, which is not available for international audience at all, so I have to rely on generous fans willing to make English fansubs.
This drama is called Sugar Dog Life. It’s about a romance between the university student Sakuraba Isumi and the police officer Amasawa Kyosuke. Two episodes aired for now and I like it a lot. It’s charming and cozy, and has two things I really like – an age gap pairing (Isumi is 20 years old, Kyosuke is supposed to be around 30, I think) and ‘food as the love language’ trope.
If someone would like to check this drama out - here is the post on reddit with information where to find both subbed episodes.
My shipping preferences
I’m amusing myself by navel-gazing about them. But I’ll do that behind the cut, because there are minor spoilers there for Theory of Love, KinnPorsche and Meet You At The Blossom. 😊
And yet I did cheer on Vegas and Pete, and I am cheering on Huaien and Xiaobao now to get together and have a happily ever after. And both Vegas and Huaien did so much worse things to the objects of their affection (and to other people, too) than just being a dismissive selfish jerk like Khai was to Third.
But I guess that’s it, isn’t it? Maybe it’s much easier for me to accept Vegas’ and Huaien’s... well, everything, because it’s so OTT and not like real life at all. For me Khai’s treatment of Third is too close to real life assholishness, and that is the main reason that I was so against Khai and Third ending as a happy couple. In fiction someone being a realistic asshole is often much worse to me than killing people, torture, destroying someone’s family and dubcon sex. 😊

I do find it funny that when I watched Theory of Love I was firmly against Third ending up with Khai. And Khai was just a regular, callous asshole, who trampled all over Third’s feelings. But that’s all he did. And I disliked him immensely, and I thought that Third could do so much better. And yet I did cheer on Vegas and Pete, and I am cheering on Huaien and Xiaobao now to get together and have a happily ever after. I was telling MG that the Japanese BLs (and series in general) are far harder to find even unsubbed than other E. Asian countries' output. I think almost everyone I've watched has been thanks to fansubbing.
It's particularly frustrating to me as I have a particular soft spot for the Japanese BLs.

Oh absolutely. Gaga is good for Japanese BLs, but still there are always Japanese dramas that are not officially available with subs anywhere. Like right now apart from Sugar Dog Life there is another Japanese BL airing with an age gap pairing and food as the love language trope - Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding. Also not available outside of Japan. I know someone mentioned their plans for making fansubs for that one, too. But that drama I put away for later for now, since my 'currently watching' list is already quite long. :)

too close to real life assholishness
Yeah, that's often it for me, too - if something hits me in a RL kind of way, that just feels completely different.

Oh yes, this! I have the most trouble watching people being treated badly in an ordinary realistic setting, much more than, like, warfare, spying, dramatic wuxia God knows what, etc. ;)
Also so glad you're writing so much <3

Same. Mafia drama with torture and shootouts - fine, wuxia drama with wars and palace intrigue - fine, office setting with an asshole boss who bullies his employees - not thanks. :)
