I watched it raw yesterday, because I knew there would be no subtitles on Wednesday morning. Adam Uni’s new website was taken down again. It’s a pity, his subtitles were quite good. But after reading the detailed summary on stebeee’s tumblr and watching a lot of subtitled gifs, watching the episode raw wasn’t a bad experience. All the emotional beats were understandable even without subs.
Right now there are subtitled episodes on gcinee.com . Episode 17, too.
Those subtitles are... not good. I’m grateful, but they are not good. Thankfully I’m old and experienced and already downloaded all available episodes subtitled by Adam Uni. :)
Now about the episode:
Jack/Zhao Zi
That was adorable. They are so domestic with the cooking and hot milk and Jack wearing Grandma’s apron. That scene when Jack, after holding the cup of hot milk, grabs Zhao Zi’s ear to cool down his fingers made me smile so much. It was so sweet.
And it was so touching when Zhao Zi said:
Actually, when I saw you waiting at the door earlier, my mood became better immediately! Ever since my grandma passed away, I live all alone and no one waits for me to get home, but when I saw you crouched by the door waiting for me, knowing that someone is waiting for me, it makes my heart feel really warm.
And that wonderful scene earlier when Jack says he has to leave and leans in for a kiss, and then takes a deep breath trying to compose himself when Zhao Zi leans back. And I love that Zhao Zi’s response to Jack’s “I did a terrible thing tonight” is not “I’m a cop, how could you”. It’s “Be careful and keep a low profile”. :)
It sure looks to me as Zhao Zi already being in love. The way he looks at Jack, the way he smiles and reacts to Jack’s flirting with such an exasperated affection. I think he just isn’t ready to admit it, even to himself.
As for Jack – so he’s not an undercover cop, but the mercenary, working for Interpol. For a hefty pay I’m sure. But that Interpol guy looks shady and I’m sure Jack has his hidden motives, too. I wonder, actually more than wonder, I’m convinced that there is a strong possibility that Tang Yi knows about Jack and that they cooperating.
Tang Yi/Shao Fei
Wow, everything about them was so emotionally intense. Tang Yi’s breakdown and those desperate kisses and Shao Fei just holding him and calming him, saying “It’s ok, I know, I know”.
And then the breakfast scene in the morning.... Tang Yi with that forced smile and cheerfulness, pretending everything is all right (small digression to say that Tang Yi’s earrings are back and Chris Wu looks absolutely stunning here :)). Katishideout on tumblr wrote about it here and I agree with her opinion completely.
