One Spring Night
I watched the 2nd episode. And it’s still pretty meh for me.
china_shop was right, Jung Hae In doesn’t smile enough. :) But more seriously, I find Yoo Ji-ho (the main female character) completely unremarkable for now. And IMO she doesn’t have chemistry with Jung Hae In’s character. But I like her sisters and it’s not really that bad, just bland, so I will give it another episode or two, to see if it will grab me.
Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung
Netflix here added the first 2 episodes yesterday. And I love it. It’s so charming and cute and funny. Main characters are both fascinating and adorable. And don’t forget beautiful. :) Especially Cha Eun-woo. What an incredibly pretty boy.
Spoilers for the 1st and 2nd episode behind the cut
It takes place at the beginning of the 19th century. Cha Eun-woo plays Prince Yi Rim, the second son of the king. He’s a sheltered, but a sweet and a bit naïve boy, who under pseudonym writes very popular romance novels full of flowery prose. Main female character Goo Hae-ryung is a noble lady who tries to fight the limitations she faces because of her gender. And who of course considers Yi Rim’s novels to be an unreadable dreck.
In the beginning of the 1st episode she reads the last chapter of The Sorrows of Young Werther to the room full of the noble ladies (she was hired to read them a romance novel and instead she chose to read The Sorrows of Young Werther, selling it as a story of a young man who gives his body and soul to love). That scene is hilarious and it made me laugh so much that I had to stop watching for a moment. :)
There are also a lot of interesting and well-acted secondary characters, especially in royal household and court. And the costumes are beautiful. I’m very inconsolable that I have to wait for the next two episodes until Saturday. :)
