Awaken

I finished it on Friday and on Saturday I re-watched the last episode, because it was really great. It’s a dark and angsty thriller with a dash of science-fiction, and I loved it. For the first four episodes I was mildly interested and then with 5th episode something clicked for me and I fell in love. My beloved Nam Goong Min was fantastic as always. His character Do Jung Woo was morally ambiguous, eccentric, charismatic and beautiful. The main mystery was interesting and smart and quite well written IMO. It had enough clues that I managed to figure some things out, but there were still a few that surprised me.

For me Nam Goong Min was the best thing of course, but I think I would still like Awaken even with another actor in the main part, although probably not that much. :) And the drama introduced me to Lee Chung Ah, who was great as one of the female leads Jamie Layton. She’s also exceptionally beautiful. So I had two people in the drama to stare at and whisper “he/she is so beautiful” in awe. :D

Another great thing about Awaken – there was practically no romance, some hints and nothing more than that, and I loved the twist about what in the beginning looked like a classic love triangle. More with major spoilers behind the cut.

After I finished Awaken I was looking for something new to watch so I started two dramas, one Chinese and one Korean.

The Lost Tomb Reboot: The Sound of the Providence – for Zhu Yilong of course. I’ve watched three episodes for now and I like it. Zhu Yilong is wonderful and beautiful, and it was such a nice surprise to see Nathan Yu (Ding Rong from The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty) as the Third Uncle. I just wish it wasn’t so dark when it comes to lightening. In some scenes I could barely see what was happening.

Sungkyunkwan Scandal – it’s a historical Korean drama. I’ve watched two episodes and it’s entertaining. The male lead is rather annoying, but I’m willing to wait and hope that he will change at least a little bit for the better soon.

I will continue watching both dramas for now. And after I’m done with them (or earlier, if I will get bored with them :)) I will probably start watching Mr. Queen.
