Awaken
I finished it on Friday and on Saturday I re-watched the last episode, because it was really great. It’s a dark and angsty thriller with a dash of science-fiction, and I loved it. For the first four episodes I was mildly interested and then with 5th episode something clicked for me and I fell in love. My beloved Nam Goong Min was fantastic as always. His character Do Jung Woo was morally ambiguous, eccentric, charismatic and beautiful. The main mystery was interesting and smart and quite well written IMO. It had enough clues that I managed to figure some things out, but there were still a few that surprised me.
For me Nam Goong Min was the best thing of course, but I think I would still like Awaken even with another actor in the main part, although probably not that much. :) And the drama introduced me to Lee Chung Ah, who was great as one of the female leads Jamie Layton. She’s also exceptionally beautiful. So I had two people in the drama to stare at and whisper “he/she is so beautiful” in awe. :D
Another great thing about Awaken – there was practically no romance, some hints and nothing more than that, and I loved the twist about what in the beginning looked like a classic love triangle. More with major spoilers behind the cut.
Do Jung Woo is the leader of one of the National Police Agency’s special task forces. One of the officers in his task force is Gong Hye Won, who’s a headstrong and talented young woman, and who clearly has a big crush on Do Jung Woo. Jamie Layton is an FBI agent, who came to Korea especially for the latest serial killing case that is connected to a massacre from 28 years ago. Do Jung Woo and Jamie are instantly drawn to each other, Hye Won is shown to be a bit jealous of Jamie, and then in the second half of the drama we find out that Do Jung Woo and Jamie are twins who were separated when they were 8 years old, and then Jamie was adopted by an American soldier and went with him to the USA.
After I finished Awaken I was looking for something new to watch so I started two dramas, one Chinese and one Korean.
The Lost Tomb Reboot: The Sound of the Providence – for Zhu Yilong of course. I’ve watched three episodes for now and I like it. Zhu Yilong is wonderful and beautiful, and it was such a nice surprise to see Nathan Yu (Ding Rong from The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty) as the Third Uncle. I just wish it wasn’t so dark when it comes to lightening. In some scenes I could barely see what was happening.
Sungkyunkwan Scandal – it’s a historical Korean drama. I’ve watched two episodes and it’s entertaining. The male lead is rather annoying, but I’m willing to wait and hope that he will change at least a little bit for the better soon.
I will continue watching both dramas for now. And after I’m done with them (or earlier, if I will get bored with them :)) I will probably start watching Mr. Queen.

Keep us posted on your opinions of the Lost Tomb Reboot! Zhu Yilong is absolutely amazing in it, and there's a higher than normal proportion of other really good actors too, although I agree with you that it can be kind of (visually) dark.

Yes, Zhu Yilong is beautiful in it, and he plays Wu Xie with a little irony, which is wonderful. It makes all the hilarious tomb robbing shenanigans much easier to bear.
You're right about the darkness. That first arc in the South Sea King's tomb is really very dark. I had problems getting decent caps from it. Unfortunately, a lot of the later arcs are also happening in caves/dark warehouses/more tombs, so it's going to stay that way.
But the cinematography is amazing, and they always know how to make Zhu Yilong look even more beautiful (and whumped).

Yes to both of this statements. I really like Wu Xie and Zhu Yilong's acting is superb. I don't really care that much about tomb robbing and about the bad guys, but everything about the Iron Triangle is wonderful.
