The King’s Avatar

firestar, I want to thank you, because I started watching The King’s Avatar (I’m up to episode 6) and I think I like it? :)

It’s about the world of professional gaming. I don’t play at all, so all the gaming stuff flies over my head, I usually fast-forward through the scenes that take place in the game. And I find the main character Ye Xiu pretty, but very boring. I don’t care about his tragic past or his quest to build some super powerful weapon for his game character.

But there is a lot of things I enjoy. I have another f/f ship already - Guoguo and Xiao Tang. Guoguo can be a bit annoying at times, but I really like Tang Rou and I like their relationship.

And of course I love Yu Wenzhou and Huang Shaotian - Gao Hanyu and Jiang Long’s characters. Gao Hanyu looks gorgeous in glasses and here’s the proof.

His character Ye Wenzhou is the captain of a professional gaming team, Huang Shaotian is one of the members. Yu Wenzhou is cool, calm and collected. And in contrast Huang Shaotian is full of chaotic, nervous energy and talking a mile a minute. They have very nice chemistry. Of course I ship them, too. :) They have this wonderful “interrogation” scene in episode 6 and Yu Wenzhou plays Huang Shaotian like a fiddle. It was beautiful and I instantly had to re-watch it. :D

And yes, that interrogation scene was amazing, I loved it. And oh, it made me want an SCI crossover even more omg. (Imagine Zhao Zhen meeting Huang Shaotian. Just. Picture it. XD)

Aaaaa, now I want that crossover, too. Zhao Zhen meeting Huang Shaotian would be awesome and hilarious. :DDD And your icon is so cute. :)

And yes, it would be great fun. But also, consider: Shaotian coming across Zhao Jue and being his trash talk self because he can't help himself and ZJ being very concerned about what happened to his little friend and trying to hypnotise him back to normal. And I imagine Zhan Yao wouldn't deal too well with a Yutong lookalike walking around either. >.>

(That said, I feel like Yu Wenzhou and Bai Yutong have more physical difference despite both being played by Gao Hanyu, but omg Bai Chi and Huang Shaotian are waaay more similar.)

I agree. Many of Huang Shaotian's gestures and mannerisms remind me of Bai Chi. It's probably the actor's mannerisms. But I love the idea of SCI people meeting Huang Shaotian and thinking that he is Bai Chi, but that something must be very wrong with him to make him talk like that. :D

Even the hairstyles are very similar, which doesn't help. XD And yes, it would be so fun. Well, for us. I imagine not for them. XD

Oh, I didn't know there was a tv show. I only got the book recced once but didn't read it (yet). Sounds fun!

I'm not really interested in the book, although I heard it's good. And who knows, maybe one day I will try it. :) But the drama is a lot of fun.

i tried the first episode in the meantime, but the terrible out-of-synch dubbing got on my nerves so much that I stopped. Maybe that's just me, but it annoyed me.

(Even though I do like the actor who was also on LoveO2O.)

And of course the first ep is all in-game fighting, so maybe it would get better later?

I'm up to episode 10 and there is still quite a lot of in-game fighting. I just like enough of other things that I don't mind fast-forwarding through those scenes. :) For me this drama is perfect for relaxing watching when I'm tired after work.
