The Witcher episode 1

I watched the 1st episode today. The first half was boring, but it did improved a lot in the second half. But it’s so grim and dark all the time. Where’s the humor and the charm? There was a lot of both in the books.

More with minor spoilers behind the cut, and I promise it’s not only complaining. :)

Cavill looks good in tight leather, but he still doesn’t work for me as Geralt. Calanthe was completely not Calanthe I remember from the books. But Ciri was fine, and Renfri was pretty cool. And the fight at the Blaviken market was fantastic.

I wonder why they chose The Lesser Evil for the 1st episode, and not the first short story The Witcher. Probably because it suited the grim and dark tone more. The first story has it’s dark moments, but it also has a happy and hopeful ending. Not so much here. Especially since they also put the fall of Cintra in this episode, and well, that’s pretty dark, too.

To sum up – that wasn’t all bad. I enjoyed it and I plan to watch another episode tomorrow.
