First I learned Chinese honorifics, then Korean honorifics, then Thai. It seems now I have to learn Japanese ones. And it all started with corvidology’s post about the Japanese drama Kei×Yaku: Abunai Aibou. I read it on Saturday and thought “ok it sounds good, let’s watch the 1st episode”. That 1st episode turned into three more episodes on Saturday, four episodes on Sunday and the last two on Monday. As you can guess I fell in love hard. :)

Two main characters are the young yakuza leader Hanabusa Shiro and Kunishita Ichiro from the Public Security Bureau of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

Ichiro is investigating the disappearance and probable death of his partner and mentor Nakaba Rion, a cold case that was considered closed three years ago. But he’s ordered by his superior to drop that case and he is assigned to investigate Hanabusa Shiro. They soon discover that they are trying to solve the same case. Nakaba Rion is Shiro’s older sister - they were both in the same orphanage and grew so close that they consider themselves to be siblings.

Shiro and Ichiro join forces in secret to investigate the case, which also means them starting to live together in episode 2. And that means a lot of domestic fluff. Here is the example of said domestic fluff – a few gifs from episode 6 I found on tumblr.

There are always short post-credit scenes in each episode, which are pure domestic fluff. And there is also a lot of delicious hurt/comfort in this drama.

More below with minor spoilers

Ichiro is a good guy, honest and just and loyal. He’s pretty and caring and sweet. I love him, but he’s not the one that made me go “I think I’m in love” after I finished watching the 1st episode.

The one who did that was Shiro. Because Shiro is complicated and fascinating and he’s definitely not the bad guy of this drama, but he’s bad-ish. He’s yakuza, and yes, he joined them only to find out what happened to his sister, but he rose through the ranks super quickly in just three years, and I’m sure he didn’t do it by avoiding doing all the bad things gangs usually do. And he’s prone to violence. But he’s a fantastic character beautifully played by Inukai Atsuhiro, whom I enjoyed so much as Mob in A Man Who Defies the World of BL. And he’s pretty and he looks sexy dressed in elegant suits, and he looks sexy smoking. :)

Apparently it was marketed as BL, but they don’t get together, or even acknowledge that they have feelings for each other. But I still feel like bromance isn’t the right tag for this drama either. It’s somewhere in between IMO. So how am I supposed to tag it here? :) I think I’ll tag it as a jdrama for now.

Shiro is canonically bisexual. He says so in the drama and we see him sleeping with an older guy from time to time. As for Ichiro we only know that he’s a virgin and a hopeless romantic, who says that he wants his first time to be with the person he loves.

But I feel like it’s text, not just subtext, that Shiro has feelings for Ichiro and he realizes it. And that Ichiro has feelings for Shiro, although here I think that Ichiro is oblivious, and he doesn’t realize (or maybe he doesn’t want to realize) that what he feels is romantic love. A few times people around them notice their closeness, too and comment on it.

This drama is on dailmotion with English subs – there are links in corvidology’s post. And here are the links to the official version with English subs on Bilibili, but it’s available only in some South East Asian countries.

It's utterly irresistible, isn't it? :D

And, as you know, I love Ichiro but I adore Shiro!

I also agree totally with you about where they are emotionally - I also get this feeling that Shiro is just waiting for him to catch up because he doesn't want to scare Ichiro off. :D

I thought it was interesting when Ichiro's friend mentioned lying about having the same dreams as him because she wanted to be close to him and that's immediately followed by evidence that Shiro and Ichiro ARE having the same dream.

Another friend suggested they're waffling on the BL because the manga it's based on isn't finished yet which makes me hope, together with the ending, that we might get a second season!

I'm hoping the fan subber might translate the extras. :D

I keep thinking about plots I want to write and then having to jot them down because I can't seem to write anything right now.

Still, I'm enjoying scenes in my head. :D

I see we have a similar problem. I'm being very cautious not to watch anything Thai, because 3 Asian languages is enough for now.

lol, this is such an educational hobby. <3 (Poke me if you have Japanese questions! Not a native speaker but I've lived in Japan a long time now.)
