Apart from the obvious – that is for giving me a wonderful drama to watch and love.
And the reasons are:
And the reasons are:
- The fannish things I tried for the first time – from writing a treat for an exchange to taking part in an exchange with a proper assignment that I could panic about. :D
- It introduced me to two fantastic actors – Zhu Yilong and Bai Yu
- Thanks to Guardian I went outside my usual circle of US/UK and Polish TV shows. Back in the days when I still watched TV shows on TV I used to watch shows from other countries quite often – a lot of Russian (me and my sister loved The Three Musketeers) and Czechoslovakian ones, and a few from other Eastern Bloc countries. But also Japanese sometimes (the one I remember the most is Oshin, I watched it as a teenager and I loved it), Italian (La Piovra was amazing), German and Spanish. The Internet and the easy availability of so many shows, and me getting rid of my cable subscription, and the fact that I know English and not some other foreign language, narrowed down my watching these last 10 – 15 years to mostly the shows in English or Polish.
Without Guardian I wouldn’t have started watching all those other Asian dramas that bring me so much joy right now: Memory Lost, Detective L, SCI, HIStory 3 Trapped, Something In The Rain. And I’m sure that list will get longer in the future.
Even if it’s so frustrating to have to wait for English subtitles sometimes. And here I would like to apologize to all those people on Polish forums, who were impatiently asking about Polish fansubs for some US TV show unavailable in Poland in the past, about whom I thought uncharitably “Just learn English, instead of whining.” Feel free to tell me to learn Chinese if I will ever start complaining about the waiting for subtitles. ;)

Heee! I know how that goes... not too long ago, I was determined to never take part in an exchange again because they are too stressful. Now...
Hope your assignment is going well!
