This is the end, no more nervous waiting twice a week. I won’t miss the waiting, but I will miss the show. :)

A long review with major spoilers below.

Let’s talk about angst first.

The only thing that surprised me was Chen Wen Hao’s suicide. It got very dark for a while there. A little bit too dark for that show, IMO. Especially because Tang Yi was a witness, sort of. He didn’t see it but he heard the shot and he knew what it meant. My heart was breaking for Tang Yi in this scene.

I re-watched episode 19 after watching the subbed version of episode 20, and now I feel like I shouldn’t be surprised. Because the foreshadowing was there. Pretty heavy foreshadowing. During the talk with Shao Fei Chen Wen Hao says “My whole life was destined to be doomed.” The way he talks about Tang Yi indicates that he doesn’t really believe that he would have a chance to repair his relationship with his son. Later while hugging Shao Fei, he says “I’m giving him to you.”

And later in the same episode Shao Fei says to Tang Yi:

“He is a person who is heavily emotional. And he suddenly found out that he misunderstood his friends and his girlfriend. He definitely blames himself for this in his heart. He already lost his friendship and love. If he can’t even get close to his only family member, there’s nothing left for him in this world.”

At the cemetery Chen Wen Hao looks deeply depressed and I read that scene as him clearly saying goodbye – to Li Chen and to Tang Yi.

I don’t find Tang Yi going to jail to be a very angsty ending. His relationship with Shao Fei is in a good place, they love each other, they trust each other, and Shao Fei will wait for him. And we don’t know what he was charged with, so you can imagine his sentence was as short as 6 months for instance. And then Tang Yi goes out and Shao Fei is there for him and they live happily ever after. :)

I’m very grateful that we saw Hong Ye and Dao Yi in this episode and that they are happy and in love, too. And that we got this absolutely adorable and funny scene with Hong Ye teasing Shao Fei and calling him “sister in law”.

And then Tang Yi picks up Shao Fei from work. I would wonder how can he do that if he’s under house arrest, but I don’t care because it was super cute.

And later we have a bed scene (very nice and very hot) preceded by the romantic and touching talk. And I feel like Shao Fei will totally use his scars in the future to get his way with Tang Yi. :D

And that last scene before Tang Yi enters the prison – they are so sweet and so very in love here. There are great callbacks to dialogues from episodes 1 and 4.

I left the best (for me) for last. Which are of course Jack and Zhao Zi’s scenes.

Jack just picking Zhao Zi over his shoulder and dumping him on his motorcycle and then speeding away while Tang Yi laughs himself silly and Shao Fei first stares wide-eyed and open-mouthed and then waves cheerily after them... :DDD That scene was delightful and perfect.

I love that Tang Yi starts smiling right after Zhao Zi appears. Tang Yi looks as if understands at once what is happening and as if he enjoys it immensely when Zhao Zi throws Jack’s words about “taking advantage” and “no real feelings” in Jack’s face. His smile says “You’re in trouble, and you deserve it, you bastard.” In contrast Shao Fei is so adorably confused at first.

Here is the best gif set on tumblr of that scene, it includes Shao Fei and Tang Yi’s reaction at the end, with Shao Fei asking amused “Since when did this two get together.”

I would really love to read a fic with Shao Fei talking about it with Zhao Zi later. :)

Later when they’re at home Zhao Zi and Jack have a serious talk to resolve this issue. Jack doesn’t say the words “I love you” but he says exactly this in other words. He says:

“This is my first time I care about someone so much. I’m worried what are you gonna eat if you don’t have me. Worried that if I don’t wait for you at the door, you’ll be lonely when coming home. This is also my first time that I can’t see someone suffering. So when you wanted me to stay, I decided to stay. Because I don’t wanna leave you.”

Awwwww, that was so beautiful.

And their bed scene later is half hot and sexy, and half hilarious. Zhao Zi is so nervous, poor baby and Jack teases him mercilessly. But then they kiss and it’s a wonderful, hot, perfect kiss. Also Andy Bian looks really, really good shirtless.

So that’s it for now. There is a novel, which just came out in Taiwan and apparently some kind souls will translate it into English. Stebeee on tumblr wrote about some plot points from the novel’s epilogue here.

It sounds great and I wish I could just buy the book in English. I would love to buy DVD, too, when it comes out, but I don’t think English subtitles would be available.
