I watched a lot of dramas lately. Because as soon as I decided to take three days off work to just relax a little at home my body said “hmm, I think it’s time for another dosage of pain in the right shoulder”. *sigh* So writing was out of the question, and scrolling a lot, too. Thankfully it’s much better today, that’s why I’m able to write this post. :)
So here is what I watched since my last post.
Triage
I recklessly watched all 10 available episodes. :) Recklessly because now I’m dying from impatience waiting for the last three episodes to air. Because I love it. It reminds me of Manner of Death and Not Me – there is the main plot, here about the shady medical practices and mysterious deaths, and with a time loop, and the romance is secondary to all that. There are two couples – the main couple is ok, I like them just fine, but I adore the secondary couple, despite them having only a few short scenes. I hope we’ll get at least a confession of feelings for them. But a kiss would be very nice, too. :)
I would love for more people to watch it and squee with me, but unfortunately I can’t link to the official source for this drama. They do this thing when each new episode is available for the international audience on Youtube only for two hours on Monday between 11pm -1am Bangkok Time. It’s in the evening for me so I was able to download all the available episodes as soon as they appeared each Monday, because I knew I would like to watch it one day. But it means that right now this drama it’s not easily available with English subs anywhere.
Theory of Love
Yes, I decided to watch it after all. And I did watch all of it despite not really liking it that much. That’s the power of Gun’s acting I guess. :) He was as always wonderful and beautiful and I am still very much in love with him. And I did enjoy the 1st episode a lot. And all that gave me the motivation to finish this drama.
More with spoilers below.
There is the scene early in the 1st episodes when Third, after being ditched by Khai for a new girl again, turns on a sad song on his phone and goes fully clothed into the shower to cry dramatically while the water runs over his face. But then suddenly the water stops running. After an unsuccessful attempt to turn it on again Third takes the water bottle, puts the holes in the cap it and holds it over his head as a shower substitute as he resumes his dramatic crying session. I laughed out loud and though “fine, show, you bought me”.
The problem is that by the time Khai had his epiphany that he had feelings for Third after all (more or less in the middle of the drama), and decided to pursue him, I was over them as a couple. I mostly wanted Third to get over Khai and find someone else. But I also admit that only Gun’s acting talent and his beautiful face kept me from disliking Third, too. Khai was too much of an asshole, but Third was too much of a doormat for me. He let Khai to walk all over him all the time. And that did get frustrating after the first few episodes.
And the secondary couple was pretty meh for me, too. I liked Two and Un separately as characters – especially Two, who was a great friend to Third. And I like Earth, who played Un, a lot, he is super handsome and a good actor, too. But Two/Un as a couple – ehhh, I couldn’t care less.
Plus and Minus
I watched the last three episodes.
Minor spoilers behind the cut.
In general it was a cute show, despite episodes 10 and 11 being rather disappointing with a completely unnecessary and forced break up scenario to create drama just before the finale. But the last episode was sweet, with a wedding and happy families everywhere, and an adorable cameo from the actors who played Hao Ting and Yu Xi Gu in History 3 Make Our Days Count.
Królowa
I also watched a new Polish show on Netflix – Królowa (Queen) with Andrzej Seweryn as the main character. He plays Silvestre Bork, who lives in Paris, and who is an exclusive and expensive tailor by day, and a beloved drag queen Loretta by night. But before he came to France 50 years ago he was called Sylwester Borkowski and he lived in a small Polish mining town. Now Silvestre Bork wants to close his tailoring business and retire, but an unexpected letter from Poland from the granddaughter he didn’t even know he had makes him change his plans, and return to that small town he left so many years ago.
It’s decently written and very well acted. But I mostly liked it because it’s such an optimistic and heartwarming story about people being generally good and doing the right thing. Especially because there was the Pride Parade in Warsaw yesterday, and I was avoiding the news all day. Really not in the mood for a lot of good old Polish homophobia. I’ll take this nice little fantasy about small Polish town being super accepting and tolerant instead, please and thank you. :)

I totally agree. I felt the same way when I was watching I Told Sunset About You

And I came close to dropping Theory of Love somewhere after 7th or 8th episode, but since I only had like four episodes left I decided to finish it. :)

This sounds so sweet. Is any of it actually set in Paris? and if so what do they do with the French dialogue? /silly language nerd question

I love silly language nerd questions. :) And yes, the first half of the 1st episode is actually set in Paris and has French actors in other parts. Andrzej Seweryn lived and worked in France for over 20 years, and he speaks French perfectly. He was also hired for many years by the Comédie-Français, which as I understand is a big honor for a non-French actor, because it happens so rarely. He returned to Poland a few years ago and now lives and works here.
