Heatwave is here and I’m dying. Well, not really, but it feels like it sometimes. :) It’s supposed to get a bit colder next week and I hope that’s true. My poor heart doesn’t do well in such weather.

So what do I do to distract myself? Watch more BL dramas of course. :)

The last one I watched was Paint With Love. It’s about an uptight perfectionist – a chairman of a small media agency, who needs to learn to loosen up a little, and a free-spirited artist who can help him do that.

I didn’t hear much about this drama when it was airing, I guess it wasn’t popular. But I was impressed with Tae Darvid’s acting in Triage and wanted to see him in something else.

This drama is not the best, I would say in general it’s rather mediocre, but surprisingly I enjoyed it a lot. At least for the first nine episodes (which I watched in two days), the last three bored me with a completely unnecessary drama based on a stupid misunderstanding and not talking to each other. So I fast-forwarded a lot to get to the happy ending.

The second half of the main pairing is played by Singto Prachaya, who was in a lot of Bl dramas, but whom I haven’t seen in anything before. He was good here, and he’s very pretty.

In other good BL news – Plus & Minus is getting a special episode that will be released on July 7th. Yay!

I watched a lot of dramas lately. Because as soon as I decided to take three days off work to just relax a little at home my body said “hmm, I think it’s time for another dosage of pain in the right shoulder”. *sigh* So writing was out of the question, and scrolling a lot, too. Thankfully it’s much better today, that’s why I’m able to write this post. :)

So here is what I watched since my last post.

Triage

I recklessly watched all 10 available episodes. :) Recklessly because now I’m dying from impatience waiting for the last three episodes to air. Because I love it. It reminds me of Manner of Death and Not Me – there is the main plot, here about the shady medical practices and mysterious deaths, and with a time loop, and the romance is secondary to all that. There are two couples – the main couple is ok, I like them just fine, but I adore the secondary couple, despite them having only a few short scenes. I hope we’ll get at least a confession of feelings for them. But a kiss would be very nice, too. :)

I would love for more people to watch it and squee with me, but unfortunately I can’t link to the official source for this drama. They do this thing when each new episode is available for the international audience on Youtube only for two hours on Monday between 11pm -1am Bangkok Time. It’s in the evening for me so I was able to download all the available episodes as soon as they appeared each Monday, because I knew I would like to watch it one day. But it means that right now this drama it’s not easily available with English subs anywhere.

Theory of Love

Yes, I decided to watch it after all. And I did watch all of it despite not really liking it that much. That’s the power of Gun’s acting I guess. :) He was as always wonderful and beautiful and I am still very much in love with him. And I did enjoy the 1st episode a lot. And all that gave me the motivation to finish this drama.

Plus and Minus

I watched the last three episodes.

Minor spoilers behind the cut.

Królowa

I also watched a new Polish show on Netflix – Królowa (Queen) with Andrzej Seweryn as the main character. He plays Silvestre Bork, who lives in Paris, and who is an exclusive and expensive tailor by day, and a beloved drag queen Loretta by night. But before he came to France 50 years ago he was called Sylwester Borkowski and he lived in a small Polish mining town. Now Silvestre Bork wants to close his tailoring business and retire, but an unexpected letter from Poland from the granddaughter he didn’t even know he had makes him change his plans, and return to that small town he left so many years ago.

It’s decently written and very well acted. But I mostly liked it because it’s such an optimistic and heartwarming story about people being generally good and doing the right thing. Especially because there was the Pride Parade in Warsaw yesterday, and I was avoiding the news all day. Really not in the mood for a lot of good old Polish homophobia. I’ll take this nice little fantasy about small Polish town being super accepting and tolerant instead, please and thank you. :)

Cutie Pie

Ah, my perfect mind candy, so ridiculous and so entertaining. There was of course completely unnecessary last minute drama in the next to last episode to delay the inevitable happy ending. But I don’t care, I enjoy it so much. The actors are all very pretty, kisses and sex scenes are scorching hot, and all very consensual, which is nice to see in a BL drama.

There isn’t much fanfic and there’s even less that I find readable. So yeah, I started reading RPF, too, not that there’s much RPF for this fandom either.

I’m still kinda boggling that I got so invested in this silly, tropey and not very well written drama. Usually I’m pretty good at predicting what could be my next fandom. Here I was completely taken by surprise. :)

Not Me

I watched two more episodes of Not Me, and I’m more invested now that I was after the first two episodes, but I don’t think I will get fannish about this drama. And this one is good. But I admit that I have to suspend my disbelief a little, because White is so completely unprepared for pretending to be his twin in front of Black’s friends. I watched just four episodes and there were already a few situations when someone says to White “remember what you told us about?” And White is all “?????” and eventually someone else will always conveniently repeat what Black said, and White will be saved. I get that even if they think that Black is behaving weirdly they won’t jump straight to “it’s not Black, it’s his secret twin” conclusion, but still it bothers me a bit that White gets away with it so easily. But not enough to stop watching for now.

And when I’m done with Not Me I think I will start KinnPorsche. It looks exactly like another tropey fun I will enjoy and maybe even get fannish about.

Plus and Minus

I like this drama so much. And again I’m a bit sorry that I started watching it before all the episodes aired. Because now after watching one 25 minutes long episode I have to wait a week for the next one. Oh the misery… ;) And I loved the 5th episode so much. I already watched it twice. The main couple is still in the “pining on one side and obliviousness on the other side” stage, but the secondary couple moves with the speed of light, so to speak. :) There was already acknowledging of mutual feelings.

And there was a wonderful cameo at the end of the last episode.

More with spoilers below.

Triage

It’s a new Thai medical BL drama with a time loop. And apparently I have to start watching it. ;) It’s adapted from the web novel by the same author who wrote Manner of Death. I’ve read that both books are set in the same medical universe. And guess what? Max and Tul had a cameo as Tan and Bun in the 4th episode. Yay! Unfortunately that drama isn’t available anywhere officially with English subs, so I have to look for unofficial sources.

Let’s talk about three Thai BL dramas first. They are all available on Youtube.

Not Me

I watched two episodes. It’s very political starting right away in the 1st episode. So after watching those episodes I read a few articles about the current political situation in Thailand. Pretty depressing reading I have to say. I don’t know if I want so much depressing real life stuff in something I watch to escape from depressing stuff in my own RL. Maybe I’ll watch one or two episodes more and then will decide if I want to watch the rest.

Don’t get me wrong, I like it when a BL drama does something else than the usual romance plot, and Not Me looks like a good, well-acted drama, but I think I’m just not in the right mood to enjoy it right now.

Cutie Pie

In contrast to a very political Not Me, Cutie Pie is a tropey and silly drama about an arranged marriage and secret identities and a conflict that could be avoided if interested parties just talked to each other, and the constant dithering of the “he says he loves me but does he really?” kind. And it applies to both the main couple and the secondary couple. Although with the secondary couple it’s more the dithering of “if he could just say what he really feels” kind. :)

I’m kinda ashamed that I like it so much. :) But to me this drama is perfect escapist fun I need right now. I can turn off my brain and just enjoy it. And I find Zee (one half of the main couple) stupidly hot. And there are a few really nice and passionate kisses, and a very hot sex scene in the beginning of the episode 8.

Here have four gifs of two kisses in the episode 7.

Dear Doctor, I’m Coming for Soul

It’s about a romance between a talented surgeon dedicated to saving people’s lives and a soul reaper. Five episodes aired for now and I watched them all. It’s ok, but nothing special. I liked it well enough that I plan to watch the rest, but I’m not really that invested.

One good thing that came out of it is that I got curious about one of the main actors and checked what else he’s done, and discovered that he had a supporting part in the Thai version of the Korean drama Tunnel. And since I loved Korean Tunnel I decided to check the Thai version (it’s on Netflix here). It’s a very faithful adaption, I watched 10 episodes out of 16 for now and I only noticed a few minor differences. But all the actors are very good and I love this version, too. And especially I love the same two characters I loved the most in the Korean original – the detective from the present time and the psychology professor that helps the police to solve cases.

And now a little bit about a new Taiwanese BL drama.

Plus and Minus

The main couple is a classic friends to lovers story. Zheng Ze Shou and Fu Li Gong are good friends who know each other since kindergarten. Not only are they childhood friends, right now they are roommates and they even work as lawyers for the same company.

The secondary couple is a divorced laundromat owner who single-handedly raises his daughter and a hot bartender from the pub in the same building.

There are three episodes available on VIKI for now and I watched them all, and I enjoy it a lot, too.
