After a month-long break I watched a bit of Guardian again today – episode 14. This is such a great episode.
Zhao Ynulan flirting with Black-Cloaked Envoy in front of the team.
Zhao Yunlan flirting with Shen Wei in his home.
“But I was cheated by you for so long, and my heart hurts. I will feel so upset, unless I get my compensation.”
Their looks during that scene, their body language.... ♥ Zhu Yilong and Bai Yu are wonderful, brilliant actors.
And later Chu Shuzhi training Guo Changcheng and even praising him a little. And that tiny smile on Chu Shuzhi’s face. Awwww.... :)
And I guess my writing mojo is back. Yay! But did I work on the draft of the finished fic? Of course not, I wrote something completely new. :) For now I’m posting it just here. Maybe later I will clean it up and get it betaed.
It’s a 600 words ficlet. A missing scene from episode 14 – what happened between Black-Cloaked Envoy taking Zheng Yi from SID office and Zhao Yunlan seeing her and Tan Xiao later on the street. Tan Xiao’s POV.
Spoilers for episode 14 of course.
Rating: General Audiences
Characters: Tan Xiao, Shen Wei, Zheng Yi
English is not my first language, so there are probably some SPAG errors behind the cut (even after all those years the use of “a” and “the” is still pretty much a mystery to me :)).
Tan Xiao left the SID office with a heavy hart. He felt like he lost his little sister again. His traitorous brain kept displaying pictures of Zheng Yi in all those little moments when he managed to make her smile and forget about her unhappy life for a while.
Rationally he knew that the Envoy was right. She committed a crime, people died, justice must be served. But his heart kept screaming that she was just a little girl, abused until she couldn’t stand it anymore. That it wasn’t her fault. That she would never do that again because she would be loved and cared for. That he would give her a happy home. And that he would give his life so nothing could ever hurt her again.
He started to walk away when suddenly everyone on the street froze motionless. In the cloud of dark energy the Envoy appeared before him, Zheng Yi by his side, her eyes wide and shocked.
“Tan Xiao,” she cried out.
Tan Xiao smiled at her, trying to calm her down. Then he looked at the Envoy, surprise, apprehension and a sliver of something that felt very much like hope mingling in his brain.
“You have to promise me...” the Envoy started to say.
Tan Xiao beamed, his heart pounding with excitement, hope turning into certainty. The fearsome Black-Cloaked Envoy could be lenient after all.
“I will, I promise,” he said quickly. “I will protect her and care for her. And I will find someone to teach her how to use her power so she wouldn’t hurt anybody in the future.”
Zheng Yi smiled at him, joy in her eyes, but the Envoy was looking at him without the word. Tan Xiao swallowed nervously, just now realizing that he rudely interrupted this powerful being who could crush him with one flick of his fingers.
“Please forgive me, Lord Envoy,” he stammered out, ready to drop to his knees and beg for mercy.
The Envoy’s face, hidden behind the mask, was inscrutable. And then Tan Xiao could swear he saw a small smile appearing on the Envoy’s lips. But it disappeared very quickly so he couldn’t really be sure. The Envoy turned to Zheng Yi.
“Zheng Yi, remember what we talked about,” he said gently.
Zheng Yi nodded, eyes serious. Tan Xiao grabbed her hand and squeezed, still only half-believing that she was here, not in Dixing, that she was staying with him.
“Thank you,” he said. “I won’t let you down.”
The Envoy gave them one last thoughtful look and disappeared. The world around them came back to life again, people walking and talking and laughing.
Tan Xiao sighed deeply, feeling nothing but relief and happiness. He hugged Zheng Yi and she clung to him, her little arms squeezing him hard around the waist. He blinked back the tears and stroke her hair lightly.
“Tan Xiao,” Zheng Yi said. “I thought I would never see you again.”
“And I now you will see me every day,” he said, grinning. “Soon you’ll get bored of me.”
“Never,” Zheng Yi said fiercely.
The sound of the motorcycle interrupted their conversation. The biker turned his head to look at them and Tan Xiao recognized Chief Zhao. He waved joyously and Zheng Yi joined him. After a while Chief Zhao hesitantly waved back.
When the motorcycle disappeared from their view, Zheng Yi looked up at him, smiling, no trace of fear or misery on her face. Tan Xiao vowed to himself to do everything in his power to keep it that way. He smiled at Zheng Yi.
“Let’s go home,” he said.

Hey, if you need a/the help, hit me up.
Thank you for your kind offer. I will keep it in mind for the future.
I have a regular beta-reader and she's good about explaining some nuances of English language to me. It's just the reasoning behind the usage of "a" and "the" never seems to stick. We don't have that in Polish language, that's why it's kinda hard for me. :)
