A Boss and a Babe
Fine show, you bought me. You get your own tag. I watched the 2nd episode and I’m so surprised, because I really like it. I might even say that I love it?
Spoilers below.
Cher continues to charm me despite all my expectations of finding him so very annoying. I really thought I would dislike him – pushy hyperactive chatterboxes aren’t my favorite kind of characters. But to my surprise I like Cher a lot. I think it’s because he is also kind-hearted and warm and optimistic, and always ready to help people. He is a bit childish sometimes, but he’s also loyal and a good friend. He might be pushing against Gun’s boundaries a little, but I don’t mind it here, since Gun never minds it. And IMO Gun clearly needs it.
There is a secondary couple, which also belongs to “I’m surprised to love it” category for me. Because it is an established couple. Two of Cher’s close friends Zo and Three are already in a relationship. And I prefer to watch people fall in love on screen. But I like them a lot, too, because they are super adorable and loving.
And our main couple already kissed, in the 2nd episode. That’s unusual, too, for a GMMTV’s drama.
And I have to say that I really like this new wave of Thai BL dramas that care about consent, and put heartfelt massages about marriage equality and LGBTQ rights into their stories. And I haven’t heard the dialogue of the type: “So you like guys?”, “I don’t like guys, I only like him” for a long time. Now characters openly declare that they are gay or bisexual. Or if they don’t use these exact words they say that they like men, or that gender doesn’t matter for them.
Never Let Me Go
I finished it and I loved it. Loyalty kink was off the charts, and there was a lovely happy ending. Of course this is another small fandom, because that’s what I seem to fall in love with these days. There are around 70 fics on AO3, and I already read everything that appealed to me at least twice. I also might have started writing a fic. 😊
And I have two fanvid recs:
all about us
I get to love you
One last thought - it feels like it’s the age of understanding and supportive mothers in Thai BL. Apart from Nueng and Palm’s mothers in Never Let Me Go, there are Tinn and Gun’s moms in My School President, and Mangkorn’s mom in Big Dragon. You can count Pran’s mother in Bad Buddy, too, I think. She isn’t opposed to her son dating a guy, she’s opposed to that guy being Pat. 😊

OTOH, I could have done without the heavy use of 'wife' and even 'boobs' (male character) which I'm hoping is just a really bad translation!
