A lot is happening in real life. Some of it good (I think), some of it not so much. So I obsess over Only Friends to cope. Sometimes I watch other dramas, too. 😉


Naughty Babe episode 1

I just love that the drama basically said: “yeah, so like it’s 2024 here, and same-sex marriages are totally legal now, so there, take that Thai government.” LOL

My general impression after that 1st episode - it’s very pretty, very OTT, but also very entertaining.

Again, as with Cutie Pie, everything would be solved if our couple actually talked to each other honestly. But then we wouldn’t have the show. 😊

There was a bit too much cringy humor for me, so I had to fast-forward a few times. But I love Yi and Kon Diao a lot, and I’m so ready for all the drama and ridiculousness and fluff and kissing, and the inevitable happy ending. It will be so much fun.

And I love Yi’s dad. Don’t let him be the bad guy who tampered with the brakes in Kon Diao’s car. I don’t think it’s him, but everything can happen in this show. 😉

The Jungle episode 13

For the episode called “Hunter” there wasn’t much Hunter in this episode. I was hoping for Hunter’s backstory and not more of Pine’s doomed romance. I’m disappointed. Let’s hope today’s episode will be better.


Dangerous Romance episode 3

Minor spoilers here.

I guess we’re done with bullying subplot. And on one hand I’m glad, because it was hard to watch, but on the other hand – for me it feels like they’re glossing over it now. I really hope Kang will take responsibility and apologize. At least to Auto, and preferably to other students he bullied, too.

I only saw it done like that only once in The Uncanny Counter – where the bully was shown to apologize sincerely not just to the main character, but to all the other students he bullied. It was great and I loved it, and I wish we could see more of that in other shows.

But apart from that one complaint I like this drama – Chimon and Perth are both good, their chemistry is great and we already had kissing because of a very flimsy excuse, and of course they both pretend they didn’t like it. 😊 I’m looking forward to the next episode on Friday.

My Dearest

I watched the first two episodes. It’s very good and my beloved Nam Goong Min is fantastic as aways. But I’m kinda dreading watching more because I know that this drama will break my heart. Those two episodes were pretty fluffy and funny and sweet, but the angst is coming, and I’m absolutely not ready for that.

Also they do this thing here when they split the drama into two parts. The first ten episodes aired already, and now there will be a break, and the second part (also with ten episodes) will start airing in October. So I don’t know, maybe I’ll wait until the second part is done and watch all of it then. We’ll see.

I posted two fics this month. One is my super self-indulgent Big Dragon mafia AU and the longest fic I’ve ever written. And the second is a treat for Battleship. Someone requested my favorite brothers from Vincenzo, so of course I had to write them a fic. 😊

The Jungle episodes 9-10

That was pretty good and very entertaining.

So we will have the next two episodes dedicated to Pine and his love interest. And then there will be still four more episodes left. I’ve read somewhere that after all those episodes exploring all the couples backstories the episodes after that will be about the plot concerning all of them. I really hope that it means that we will find out what Hunter deal is. I mean, they all have animal nicknames and he’s called Hunter. And that short talk with Hack in episode 10 only wetted by appetite for more about Hunter.

Hack: What do you want? You know everything here. You see everything that happens here. Sometimes you show support. Sometimes, you hinder it. What do you want?

Yes, Hunter please tell us what do you want. I wanna know so bad. 😊

And I was sure that I wouldn’t be interested in Nathee’s backstory, since I found him kinda boring so far. But I loved these episodes. Mostly because his love interest Florence is a delight. She’s honest and playful, and bold. She knows what she wants and she goes straight for it. I’ve only seen the actress as Torfun in The Tale of Thousand Stars, and she was good and I liked her. But she’s so great here.

There is a scene when a drunk unhinged guy starts to wave his knife around and tries to take Florence hostage, and she just deals with him swiftly (by elbowing the guy in the gut, and throwing him over her shoulder) without waiting for Nathee and Hunter to rescue her. And later Nathee is the one who’s good with the needle, and he saws her ripped dress.

And like I said Nathee wasn’t that interesting to me when we just saw his sexy playboy persona, but during the day he’s just a IT nerd, who’s all soft and unassuming, and he sleeps on the job whenever he can. It’s so cute. And he’s clearly so smitten with Florence, but pretends not to be. And she’s definitely a pursuer in that relationship. And I’m charmed and cheering for them to be happy together forever. 😊

And at first I wasn’t that interested in Hack/Irin, although actors have nice chemistry and they do look hot together. But it’s so tragic and messed up with Irin still hung up on Pine despite him rejecting her over and over again, and then her using Hack for meaningless sex without regard for his feelings. And Hack trying so desperately to resist falling for her, because he knows it’s hopeless. And somehow all that melodramatic angst got me invested. 😊

My Dearest with my beloved Nam Goong Min is getting a lot of buzz, but I decided to wait for all the episodes to air before watching. Because it sounds very angsty and serious, and I’m not in the right headspace for serious angst right now.

But I think I’ll try Behind Your Touch next. It’s on Netflix here and I dismissed it before because its premise made me cringe. It’s about a kind veterinarian, who works in a peaceful rural village, and who starts working with a detective to solve a serial murder case. She possesses a special psychometry superpower – when she touches the butt of a person or animal, she is able to see into their past. It sounds so off-putting to me and like an excuse for a lot of crude jokes. But the reviews of the first few episodes all say that it’s surprisingly good and funny despite the weird premise. So, who knows, it might be a great drama to watch in the evenings when one is tired after work.

Another heatwave is upon us. *sigh* Luckily it’s national holiday here today so I didn’t have to go to work. And I could spend the day drinking a lot of water, napping, and in between napping re-watching the 1st episode of Only Friends and watching the 7th episode of The Jungle. I still have the 8th episode of The Jungle and two last episodes of Heartbreak to watch. But I don’t want to watch any of those, I want to start re-watching Cutie Pie. Because the official trailer for Naughty Babe aired today.

I didn’t like the first concept trailer that they presented last year, but I like this one a lot and I’m so excited for this drama. I loved Yi/Kon Diao more than Lian/Kuea in Cutie Pie, so I’m very happy to have a drama where they are the main couple. It starts airing on September the 2nd.

And here have one more trailer - Dangerous Romance (romantic version). I’m even more intrigued, and will be watching the 1st episode on Friday for sure.

Also I dropped the 2nd season of Uncanny Counter after the 5th episode. It bored me. But that’s fine – my to watch list is too long as it is, and it’s always a struggle to decide what to start watching next. 😊

Marry My Dead Body

It’s the cute, funny and surprisingly touching Taiwanese supernatural LGBTQ+ comedy on Netflix. It even made me teary-eyed at the end.

It’s about a rude and homophobic police officer (Wu Ming Han played by Greg Hsu) who is forced to marry a ghost of a young gay man (Mao Mao played by Austin Lin) who had been struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. It happens because of the machinations of Mao Mao’s loving and super cool grandmother, who promised Mao Mao that she would live to see him get married one day, and she wanted to keep that promise even after her grandson was dead.

Together they fight crime. 😊 And they try to find Mao Mao’s killer before Mao Mao’s ghost can move on in the afterlife, and then be reincarnated. And slowly they fall in love in the process. I mean, ok, they learn to love each other and their relationship is never defined, although yes, I think it’s supposed to be read as enemies-to-friends trope. But IMO you can absolutely read it as a romantic love.

Because come on, Mao Mao sacrifices his ghost self to save Wu Ming Han’s life. And Wu Ming Han when he’s dying and asked what he’s so desperately looking for says very seriously “I’m looking for my husband” when he can’t see Mao Mao around.

The ending is bittersweet in the sense that yes they found Mao Mao’s killer, and Mao Mao got closure with his dad, but he left to be reincarnated and Wu Ming Han is alone and clearly missing him a lot. Although he has a cute dog now, and he did get a new family in Mao Mao’s dad and grandmother, who treat him as a son in law.

There are a few fics on AO3, but they are all in Chinese. I hope there will be fics in English in a near future.

That was a bit disappointing for me.

I don’t like that they turned the second female lead into a mean and jealous villain as soon as she was rejected (and very gently at that) by the male lead. I thought you were better that that, show.

Also there was a lot of cuteness for our main couple, so I expect a lot of angst in a next few episodes before the happy ending. Not sure if I want that.

The Jungle episodes 3-4

So ridiculous, but very entertaining. And I really hope that Hunter is the mastermind behind everything. I would love to see Mix as a villain. I’m sure he would be great.


The Uncanny Counter season 2

I watched the three available episodes (it’s on Netflix), but I don’t know – it doesn’t work for me as well as the 1st season did. So Mun is overpowered, and the villains are rather meh for now. And I admit I have troubles with accepting Kang Ki Young as a villain. He’s a great actor, but before I only saw him as a dorky sidekick in Bring It On, Ghost and a kind boss in Extraordinary Attorney Woo. On paper his character is the kind of villain I really should like, but something isn’t working for me here. Ah well, it’s still entertaining and funny, and full of found family feels, so for now I will be watching.


Also My Dearest with my beloved Nam Goong Min started airing, there are two episodes on VIKI already, but I’m waiting with watching until a few more episodes are available.

Last week was bad. I was sick, again. Thankfully it wasn’t my heart this time, but still, ugh... And this week I caught a cold. A mild one, and I worked, just from home, but still nothing pleasant about it. I feel better today so here is hoping that next week will be finally sickness free.

And here is my drama watching report.

Heartbeat – I watched all the available 10 episodes. It’s very cute, funny and cozy. There is some angst, of course, but not too much, and I’m sure there will be a happy ending. I’m very grateful for this drama, because it cheered me up a lot last week.

Taecyeon is good and very handsome. His character is so sweet. And he has good chemistry with the female lead played by Won Ji An. I haven’t seen her in anything else, but she’s great here and I love her character so much.

The Jungle – two episodes aired and I watched them. It’s not good, but entertaining in that ‘don’t have to think too much, and there are a lot of beautiful people to stare at’ way. But it’s very chaste considering the subject. I mean, I know it’s a GMMTV drama so there won’t be a lot of explicit scenes. But still, these guys are apparently players seducing women left and right. And all we’ve got for now was one awkward kiss. 😊

Also the guys are pretty boring for now IMO, even Nanon’s character. Well, ok Mix is cool and he looks great. But at least the women are definitely more interesting than men. I already like Gale a lot. And Irin. So for now I’m in it for them.


I’m also looking for the next cdrama to watch. I watched half of the 1st episode of When I Fly Towards You, because all the reviews were so glowing. And it’s cute, I guess, but it’s about teenage love and it’s always harder for me to get invested in that, and here I didn’t. So that one is a no for me.

The weather here is not good for people with heart problems. It’s too damn hot already and it’s supposed to be even hotter (around 33 °C) this weekend. Gah... I think I’ll spend Saturday and Sunday watching dramas and reading fanfic, with maybe a short walk early in the morning when it’s not yet so damn hot.


Speaking of drama watching – I’m thinking of dropping Numbers. This week’s episodes were so boring, I can’t even tell what exactly happened in episode 6 because I fast-forwarded through half of it. And they introduced an annoying love triangle. No, thanks.


But there are good news, too – a new drama with my beloved Nam Goong Min starts airing on August the 4th, probably on VIKI. It’s called My Dearest, it’s sageuk set in Joseon during the Qing invasion, and it looks wonderful. Here is the teaser.


And in my quest to use my Gaga subscription to the fullest while I’m still paying for it I tried a lot of dramas there lately.

My Ride – half an episode watched. Pretty fluffy and to me boring. I could maybe give it another episode or two, but I found both leads not hot and with no chemistry.

The Tuxedo – three episodes watched. It’s very short, just 8 episodes (each episode is only 20 minutes long), but I hate self-centered and arrogant male leads, and boy, was Nawee like one of the worst examples of this trope. Also it’s rather badly written and actors are pretty weak, too. I managed three episodes because this time I found both leads very hot, and more importantly the music and the opening song were composed and sung by Jeff Satur. I’m willing to forgive a lot for Jeff Satur’s music. 😊

Mr Cinderella – again I managed only half an episode. IMO it was even worse than The Tuxedo when it comes to writing and acting.

I will watch the winner of my poll Long Time No See soon. Just not yet, because, from what I read about it, it’s rather angsty and dark and I have to be in the right mood for it.

And in the meantime I tried Papa & Daddy. It’s Taiwanese BL about a happy couple, a restaurant owner and a popular youtuber, who raise a son together. Now their son is three years old and goes to the kindergarten for the first time.

There are two short seasons with 6 episodes each. I watched the 1st season and I liked it a lot. The actors are very good and have great chemistry. It’s cute and mostly fluffy, and very touching when it talks about more serious things, like raising a kid while being a gay couple, and coming out. One episode even made me teary-eyed.

I did want to watch the 2nd season, but the last scene of the 1st season kinda soured me on that for now. We’ll see, maybe I will try to watch it later.

The Jungle

The plot doesn't sound like something for me. To quote MyDramaList: "Rendezvous is the name of a secret bar located in Thong Lo. It's the gathering place of The Jungle, a group of good-looking young men often out on the hunt. They don't love and don't form attachments." But I still plan to check it out. Mix looks so beautiful, and I so want to see Nanon playing twins, one evil and one good (at least that’s what it looks like from the trailer). 😊

Numbers

It’s a revenge drama about a young man, who starts working at the prestigious, but corrupted accounting firm. He wants to take it down from within, because that firm was responsible for destroying his grandfather’s company and his life.

I enjoyed the first two episodes, but right now I feel like I want to watch it mainly so I can read and enjoy Dramabeans review. Because the review of those first two episodes was hilarious and it made me laugh. For instance this:

“I chose this drama for one reason: to see implausibly attractive accountants tussle over spreadsheets like warriors locking eyes across a battlefield.”

Heh, that was my reason, too. That and the presence of Choi Jin Hyuk as one of the leads. I loved him in Tunnel and wanted to see him in something else.

And I have to say that it reminds me a bit of The Devil Judge. I mean – there is a charismatic and morally ambiguous older man, who is using an idealistic younger man for his own goal, and slowly starts to become emotionally attached to him. Chemistry is not as explosive between two male leads in this drama as it was in The Devil Judge, but still, it’s there and it’s nice. And I do ship them a little already.

The Veil

I missed my beloved Nam Goong Min so I started The Veil re-watch. And really this drama wouldn’t be even half as good without him. And I appreciate again how you take one look at Han Ji Hyuk and you can clearly see that he’s a ticking time bomb that will explode for sure, you’re just not certain when or what will set it off.


Heartbeat

Taecyeon’s new vampire drama started airing (on Amazon Prime), and I glanced on Dramabeans review of the first two episodes. Their opinion is that it’s cheesy and fun. Something for me then. 😊 I think I’ll wait until a few more episodes air, and then I will decide if I want to pay for another subscription or if I want to try finding it through other sources.

On Saturday I spent another three hours in the emergency ward at the hospital – I had the same symptoms as before only worse. I’m going to see a new cardiologist tomorrow, so wish me luck. I used to live in Warsaw for 20 years and I have a very good doctor there and I still go to see him once a month, but that was enough when my health was much better. Now not so much. Now I need a doctor available here when I have an emergency. Luckily I took this week off work, so not having to go to the office for five days definitely helps.


But now let’s talk about BL news, because I have two and they are so good. 😊

Firstly - we are getting the 2nd season of Choco Milk Shake. Woohoo!!!!!! More Milk and Uncle, pretty please.

Secondly - Only Friends started shooting and there are a few pics already and I’m shaking with impatience. I want to watch it so much.
