This week sucks. I have too much work and I’m tired all the time. I don’t even have the energy in the evening to write that filthy Big Dragon smut I want to write. I’m usually going to sleep at 10:15 p.m. the latest. Gah, I feel so old. 😊

And on Friday I have to go to Warsaw for two days, which wouldn’t be a problem, but for many different reasons I have to take a super early train at 5 a.m., which means I have to wake up at 4 a.m. Grrrr... Lately 9 hours of sleep doesn’t seem to be enough sometimes, I don’t know how will I survive the whole day on 6 hours of sleep. *sigh*

Anyway here is my drama watching report, since watching dramas is the only thing I’m capable of doing in the evening.


Dramas I dropped

Alchemy of Souls – I watched six episodes. I started the 7th and after five minutes I realized that I really don’t care about what will happen next. It’s pretty and the acting is good, but the script IMO is very weak.

Oh! My Assistant – I watched two episodes, but there’s too much cringy humor for me.


Dramas I finished

Under the Queen’s Umbrella – I liked it. It was well written and very well acted. And for a Kdrama I think it did a good job with ( this spoiler )

The Fabulous – I liked it a lot. It’s not perfect and like I’ve said before the main romance was boring to me, but it’s a really good drama about friendship. Because the best part of The Fabulous is the friendship between the four main characters. It’s heartwarming how they always support each other no matter what. Even when they struggle to find a new job or have a conflict at work, or relationship problems, they are always there for each other. And it’s so nice to watch.


Dramas I started

Island – I watched the first two episodes. I liked them, and Kim Nam Gil is as always beautiful and very good. It’s available on Amazon Prime. I didn’t want to pay for another subscription for just one drama before I knew I liked it, so I acquired those two episodes in another way. But I like it, so I guess I will be paying for another subscription.

Search WWW – I watched the first episode and it’s good (with so many wonderful female characters) and I liked it, so I will probably watch the rest in the near future.

Cutie Pie 2 You – the sequel to Cutie Pie. It has four episodes and the 1st episode aired last Friday. And it’s no surprise that I love it. It’s as OTT and ridiculous and entertaining as its predecessor. With a lot of hot kisses. Here have two gifs of Yi/Kon Diao kiss as proof. 😊

History 5 Love in the Future – I watched two episodes available for now and I like it a lot. Or rather I’m pretty meh about the main couple, but I already adore the secondary couple. It’s an age gap employer/employee pairing, with a lot of pining on the older one’s side. It’s not really sunshine one/grumpy one, more like sunshine one/serious and reserved one. Here they are:

My Christmas holiday is almost over, tomorrow to work again, but thankfully only for four days instead of five. And in the meantime there are so many fics in Yuletide collection for me to read. I’ve already read a lot and there is still plenty left.

And the best of all the fics I’ve read so far was my gift – the perfect Not Me fic about my favorite twins Black and White.

I wrote more than one fic for Yuletide, and I think it’s pretty easy to guess which ones are mine. I’ll brag about it on January the 1st. ;)


In Kdrama watching news - I finished Extraordinary You and it was wonderful. And I was so impressed with Lee Jae Wook as Baek Kyung that I started Alchemy of Souls for him. I watched two and a half episodes for now and I’m not very emotionally engaged, but it’s entertaining – the acting is good, the clothes are pretty, and the fighting scenes are excellent. I will watch the rest, but first I want to finish The Fabulous – a short (only 8 episodes) Kdrama about four young people (a photographer, a designer, a model and a section chief of a PR agency) working in the fashion industry. It’s not perfect, and the main romance if pretty boring, but I like it a lot. I already watched 5 episodes. And one of the four main characters is canonically and openly gay, and he’s a fantastic character and my absolute favorite. I wish they gave him a love interest, too, instead of devoting so much time to a predictable het romance, but that’s probably too much to ask of a Kdrama, even the one airing exclusively on Netflix. I mean, they still could do it, I haven’t read any spoilers so I don’t know what will happen, but I doubt it. But still I like the drama and here I am very emotionally engaged.


My Kdrama watching plans for the beginning of 2023 look like this:

Island – Kim Nam Gil’s new drama

Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol – for Lee Jae Wook; I haven’t heard many good things about this drama, but I’m in love with Lee Jae Wook now, so I’m willing to try it for him

Awaken re-watch – because it will be on Netflix in January

And last but not least two Korean BL dramas – Oh! My Assistant, which just finished airing; and The New Employee, which just started airing. Both have 8 episodes and are available on VIKI.

Someone purchased Paid Account for 12 months for me. I saw the message today morning and it made my day. Thank you, anonymous benefactor. ♥ ♥ ♥

Work is still exhausting, but things are going well on the fanfic writing front and the drama watching front.

I broke my promise to myself and started Under The Queen’s Umbrella despite only 8 episodes being available on Netflix for now. And I watched all those episodes, and I’m so disappointed and impatient because now I have to wait for the rest of them. I really don’t know what else I expected. ;)

And I finally started watching Extraordinary You. I heard a lot of good things about it and it sounded exactly like something I would like. I watch it on VIKI where they have it as 32 half-hour long episodes. I enjoyed it from the start, but it took me a few episodes to become really invested. Around episode 8 I noticed that I really care now and I want Dan Oh to be happy. Yesterday I watched episodes 9 and 10 and it’s official now – I love it.

Kim Hye Yoon is amazing (and so tiny, especially next to all those very tall actors :)). And Rowoon is so pretty and adorable, and he has a lot of chemistry with both Kim Hye Yoon and Lee Jae Wook. That’s why I ship both Dan Oh and Baek Kyung with Ha Ru. And since I love M/M/F threesomes I ship Dan Oh/Ha Ru/Baek Kyung, too, of course. :)

And I saw someone once mentioning (on tumblr? on dreamwidth? I can’t remember) that Vegas would absolutely hate that he’s in the show called KinnPorsche. And now I want a crack fic about Vegas, who, like Dan Oh, realizes slowly that he’s a character in a BL drama. But he can accept that because surely he’s the male lead and that means Porsche is his love interest. And then he finds out that the drama is called KinnPorsche. :DDD

Last, but not least, Domundi (the company responsible for Cutie Pie) presented their lineup for 2023. I will write more about it on weekend, but for now I want to link to a trailer for The Next Prince with Zee and NuNew. It’s just a concept trailer, so there is no 100% guarantee that it will get made. And it looks pretty expensive to make, and Domundi is not a very big company like GMMTV for instance. But I so want them to make it. It looks so deliciously iddy – a fantasy and/or historical drama about a spoiled prince and his faithful knight. And Zee and NuNew both look beautiful and their chemistry is burning up the screen.

It’s an 8 episodes long Thai BL drama with a rivals-to-lovers story. Is it good? No. Do I recommend it? No really. Did I enjoy it? Oh yes, immensely. It’s ridiculous and OTT, but so entertaining. And high heat. I can just turn off my brain and have fun watching beautiful men angrily yelling at each other and then angrily kissing each other.

The first three episodes hinted at much darker and kinkier show, but then it turned into a fluffy, vanilla rom-com. I would prefer that they kept that darker and kinkier version for all 8 episodes. But despite that it was very entertaining.

Apparently source material is 90% smut and mpreg and 10% very flimsy plot, so in comparison to that the drama is a big improvement. :)

I also love the opening song sung by one of the leads. It's called Dancing With The Devil. No surprise there since it was composed by Jeff Satur and I love his songs. :)

But I am surprised that I’m so invested in this silly drama. I want to write fics. And I can’t now because I have to finish my Yuletide fic, and there are two treats (maybe three) I would like to write. And I already took a break from my Yuletide writing to write a short Kan/Thua fic for The Eclipse.

And unfortunately for me this is another very small fandom. There are only 29 fics in English on AO3 and I already read every even half-decent fic at least twice. After falling in love with KinnPorsche I was so happy to be again, after a long time, in a big fandom with a lot of new fics posted daily. Now it’s back to tiny fandom hell for me. :)

War of Y

I watched half of it and truly speaking I don’t know why. :) I have a weird experience with this BL drama. I can’t say that I liked it, yet I kept watching. And it wasn’t hate-watching, I drop dramas if I hate them. In general I would say it’s rather mediocre, but I see the potential for a great drama buried somewhere under a weak script and soapy OTT-ness. I think it suffers from being a BL drama. It’s trying to both be a thing and be a critique of the thing. And it’s hard to do well.

And there is no nuance, like some things being bad but other things being good. No, it’s almost all uniformly bad, and everybody is horrible and looking out only for themselves. It gets a bit boring to watch after a while.

The first 5 episodes were elevated by great acting of the two leads – Billy and Seng. They are both good and they have great chemistry. It kind makes want to give Secret Crush On You another try. I watched the 1st episode maybe half a year ago, but it made me cringe so much in second hand embarrassment that I gave up on it. I had to fast-forward a lot.

The second story (episodes 6-10) is weaker, and the leads aren’t as good as Billy and Seng. And the plot is kind of stupid and a most of the time characters’ motivation didn’t make much sense to me.


GAP

I watched the 1st episode on Sunday. It’s pretty good, both girls are gorgeous and have great chemistry. And I’m so over the cold, arrogant male lead in het and BL dramas, but it’s absolutely working for me in F/F pairing. And Sam of course has hidden depths, and hides sadness and vulnerability under her cold exterior. And Mon is a lovable dork, but she’s also competent and not afraid to speak her mind. And I’m here for it.

I’m just wondering if I want to watch it week to week or if I should wait for more episodes to be available.

In other BL and GL news GMMTV presented trailers for their dramas, which they plan to air in 2023. There are 8 new BL dramas and one GL drama. I watched all the trailers and here are the ones that caught my interest.


Only Friends

Based on just the trailers this is the one I’m most interested in. It looks entertaining – messy and angsty and complicated, and for a GMMTV drama pretty spicy. After The Eclipse I wanted Neo to do another drama with Louis, I liked their chemistry. But acting wise I was more impressed with Neo, so I’m fine with him being paired with another actor in this drama.


Cooking Crush

OffGun’s new drama. It looks like a cute mind candy with a few angsty moments (it’s Gun’s drama, he has to have a crying scene ;)), but Off and Gun both look great and I will always check at least the 1st episode of Gun’s new drama. The secondary couple is again Neo and his new acting partner.

This is the one GL drama (with a secondary BL couple) and another cute mind candy drama. The leads are the actresses who played Pa and Ink in Bad Buddy. I loved them, and I excited to watch them as main leads here. And they have the cutest pairing name – MilkLove. :D

It looks like there are more and more GL dramas out there and I couldn’t be happier.

Like for instance the Korean GL drama She Makes My Heart Flutter, about an outgoing young lesbian Gang Seol who starts working at her aunt’s women-only bar named 'Dickinson's Room'. Soon Seol finds out that her aunt is a lesbian, too.

It’s a very short drama – only 5 episodes and each episode is 15 minutes long. It’s sweet and soft, but not without a conflict since Seol and her aunt have completely different personalities, and have different views on being an out lesbian in their conservative country.

And now take a look at two trailers - one for a Thai GL movie and one a Thai GL drama.

The Cheese Sisters

Basically it looks like the movie is about lesbians farming and baking cakes, and making cheese. :) It will be in theaters in Thailand on November 24. There are no information for now about the international release, but the trailer has English subtitles, so here is hoping they do plan to release it internationally. Because it looks super cute and I would love to watch it.


GAP

This is a 12 episode long drama that will start airing on November 19 on Youtube.

It’s about Mon, a newly graduated student from university, who starts working as an intern in a big company. Chairwoman of that company is Sam, whom Mon knew and admired, and had a crush on since they were young. The trailer looks sexy and charming, even if also a bit cheesy and clichéd. Sam is the epitome of a rich, cold and arrogant CEO, Mon is perky and sweet. There are controlling parents trying to force their daughter into an arrange marriage, and “no office romance” rule. But it looks delightful, and I can’t wait to watch it. :)



As for BL dramas yesterday I finished the Korean drama Roommates of Poongduck 304, with the same leads as in Kissable Lips. And yes, that one was much better IMO. I wonder if this is the beginning of South Korea doing co-branded pairs playing multiple characters in different dramas the same way BL in Thailand does. And I wouldn’t mind seeing Kim Ji Wong and Yoon Seo Bin as a couple in one more drama. They have great chemistry and their kisses are great, too.

Sunday was a good day, Monday not so much health wise. But I’m not going to complain about that and about work again, let’s just talk about good fannish things instead.

Yuletide is here again and I did have a moment of doubt if I should sign-up this year, but eventually I did and now I’m glad that I did. And I love my assignment. I had one possible recipient in fandom A and one in fandom B based on available letters (and both I knew I would be happy to get), and eventually someone from fandom C where there were two requests without visible letters. I got a person from fandom A, and I have one good idea already, and I’m excited to start writing.


As for drama watching things are good, too. I’m on the lookout for a new Kdrama to watch since One Thousand Won Lawyer is ending soon. There are only three episodes left. The amount of the episodes was reduced from 14 to 12. People are speculating that it’s either some secret drama behind the scenes or that they already know they will get the 2nd season. I really hope it’s the latter.

I want to try Little Women with Kim Go Eun. It’s very loosely based on Louisa May Alcott’s "Little Women". But I’m waiting for all the episodes to become available on Netflix.

And in the meantime I watched the 1st episode of The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim, because I was very impressed with Nam Da Reum as young Han Ji Pyung in Start-Up and wanted to see him in a major role. It’s entertaining and cute, so I will watch a few more episodes for sure. The drama is on VIKI and it’s short – only 12 episodes, and each episode is only 25 minutes long.

The Eclipse episode 11

After 10 good episodes that one was disappointing and weird. And I blame it entirely on bad writing. There is a chance that they will fix at least some things that disappointed me in the last episode. And if not, oh well, I can still enjoy the previous 10 episodes. I know that sometimes a bad finale can retroactively ruin the whole show for some people, but I’m not one of them.

And now I’m going to browse through Yuletide requests because they are now visible. I already bookmarked 4 letters, let’s see if I’ll find more interesting prompts. No way there are 4 treats happening of course, but I hope at least one will. :)

I’m so overworked lately. If I could I would gladly retire already. But we’re getting a new person in my small department in January, so that should help a lot. As for now I luckily have a lot of watching to distract me, and fretting over my Yuletide sign-up and letter is distracting, too. :)

Interview with the Vampire continues to be good. Funny thing is that after watching the trailer and teasers I was sure I would love this Claudia, and I had doubts about this Daniel. Right now after four episodes I like Daniel a lot, and Claudia is ok I guess, but I’m not really enamored with her.

But Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid are both so, so good as Louis and Lestat. Their chemistry is fantastic and Lestat/Louis relationship is so passionate and loving and at the same time so beautifully complicated and fucked up. I’m so glad the 2nd season is confirmed.



And I started War of Y – a Thai BL drama about inner workings of Thai BL industry. I watched the 1st episode yesterday and I’m intrigued, so I will watch a few episodes more to see if I want to watch all of it. And for Thai BL it’s quite long – 20 hour long episodes. It’s divided into four stories, each story lasts 5 episodes. Here are short summaries:

Story 1- New Ship

Before the ship, it wasn't easy. But this new era is even harder.

Story 2 - War of Managers

The story of a shipped couple who are privately a real couple. Managers and drama clash until the couple is forced to separate.

Story 3 - Y-Idol

A reality search for new actors—who can sing, dance, and act—and the chaos of the Idol Camp.

Story 4 - Wife

When one half of a shipped couple has a wife, will their future in this industry be ruined?



And of course there’s always fanfic for cheering up, too. It’s slim pickings with The Eclipse fanfic for now, but KinnPorsche fandom never disappoints in that regard.

For instance majestictortoise posted another fic in her Checkmate series, this time from Macau’s POV and it’s brilliant. The author said that they planned to write two more fics in this series – from Vegas’ POV and from Khun’s POV. I can’t wait to read them.

For the last few days I was watching a Polish show on Netflix called Wielka Woda (High Water). It’s about the giant flood in Wrocław in 1997. It was a really big disaster, probably the biggest in post-war Poland.

I was living on the other side of the country then, but I still remember watching the news every day and seeing cars left on the streets in the center of the city covered with water almost up to their roofs. And people having to use boats when they wanted to go somewhere. And the lack of drinking water and the lack of electricity, and a lot of people losing everything they worked so hard for. It was horrible and the most frustrating thing is that it was partially caused by the incompetence of people in charge in Wrocław then.

The show has six episode and I finished it yesterday. I liked it a lot. It’s well written, well directed and very well acted. It even made me teary-eyed a few times.


Through the Darkness is on Netflix now and I’m so tempted to re-watch it. I probably won’t for now because I’m so not in the mood for such a dark and heavy drama like this one. When it comes to Kdramas I’m still watching One Thousand Won Lawyer, I watched the 3rd episode yesterday. And it’s sweet, funny and optimistic. That’s exactly what I need right now. :)



And now let’s see which upcoming dramas and shows I’m excited about.


Mayfair Witches

I guess we have Anne Rice TV Universe now, since AMC, which is responsible for Interview with the Vampire, presented the first trailer for the show. It will premiere on January 5, 2023.

I loved the first two Mayfair Witches books – The Witching Hour and Lasher, but I grew so bored while reading the last one that I never finished it.

And we can probably expect a crossover event in the future for both shows since in the 1st episode of IWTV Louis’ brother mentions Mayfair house down the road or something like that. Anyway, the trailer looks good, so I will be watching this one, too.


Home School

Gun Atthaphan’s new drama, not a BL, again from the “respected and exclusive school hides a dark secret” genre. The first trailer from 2021 is here. It looks very creepy, and I’m not very fond of creepy, but I’m going to watch it anyway. :)

It only started filming in October, so we can’t expect it to premiere earlier than in 2023.


Island

It’s Kim Nam Gil’s new drama. It’s based on a webtoon of the same name, and it is a fantasy exorcism drama that takes place on Jeju Island. It will premiere in December.


HIStory 5: Love in the Future

It’s a new HIStory drama, and this one has time travel. No idea when it will air, the filming has just started. But still I’m willing to wait, because time travel, yay. But please, please, please, be good.


Roommates of Poongduck 304

A new Korean BL with the leads from Kissable Lips as the main couple again. It starts airing on October 13 and it will be on VIKI. The teaser with English subs is here.

Kissable Lips was bad, but I liked their chemistry in this drama, and I love Kim Ji Woong, he’s beautiful and talented and charismatic. I want to like this one. So again, please, please, please, be good. :)

I have to go to Warsaw for four days the next week. Unfortunately for work, not for pleasure. And it will be a lot of demanding, hard work, like ‘10 hours a day for a week’ hard work. I’m already so stressed. Grrr...


So I was looking for something to cheer me up in the evenings after work. First I tried Checkmate. I watched 4 episodes. Chemistry between Hu Yitian and Zhang Yunlong is still there, and it’s beautiful visually with all those pretty costumes. But I don’t know, it doesn’t work for me the same way My Roommate Is A Detective worked for me. I found the first three episodes rather boring. The 4th episode was a bit more interesting and I liked it, so I will probably watch the rest in some unspecified future.


Then I tried Love Between Fairy and Devil. I watched two episodes, but they bored me, too. Yes, the female lead’s voice takes some time to get used to, but I wouldn’t mind that, I was used to it by the end of the 2nd episode. And true, the male lead is very hot. But I don’t see chemistry between them, and I was very disappointed that the body swap lasted only for maybe 15 minutes max. From what I heard about it earlier I thought it would last at least one whole episode.


And then I hit the jackpot with Novoland: Pearl Eclipse. I watched three episodes for now and I love it.

I loved William Chan in The Mystic Nine and he’s so good here, too. I find him super charismatic, and the relationship between Fang Jianming and the Emperor is very slashy, and I ship them already. But I like the female lead, too. Haishi is strong, resourceful and spirited, so I don’t mind the inevitable Fang Jianming/Haishi pairing in canon despite my other shipping preferences here. :)


And of course I have my actual favorite The Eclipse, even if it’s just one episode a week. Even though I still ask myself why am I so obsessed with the drama about high schoolers? I don’t like dramas about high schoolers. :) But seriously, this week’s episode was so good. I clapped my hands and I laughed and I made a lot of aww noises.
