Bad things

Health problems still occur. Like I’ve said before it’s nothing really serious, just a few persistent and annoying minor things. But they just really tire me lately when combined together like that.

Disappointing things

Extraordinary Attorney Woo

I enjoyed it a lot during the first 8 episodes, then I started to get a bit bored. And then after episode 10 I started to get very bored. I thought that surely with how well written this drama have been so far there would be no need for any generic kdrama tropes (like for instance this spoiler )) to appear. But they did appear en masse. Ok, I admit that I did chuckle when I saw The White Truck of Doom, but the rest – ehh, I couldn’t care less. Also neither the main couple nor the secondary couple worked for me. The finale managed to restore a bit of my faith in this drama, it was cute and optimistic, but it was too little too late for me. Apparently there will be the 2nd season, but I don’t think I will watch it.

Good things

Dramas

The Eclipse – episodes 3 and 4

I’m very pleasantly surprised by how good this drama is for now. I loved those two episodes and I can’t wait for more. Thua and Kan own my heart. Akk and Ayan are also great. This will be another perfect fandom for Yuletide this year.

One Thousand Won Lawyer

This is the new drama with my beloved Nam Goong Min, and it will start airing on 23th September. It looks like a return to a Chief Kim type of role for my beloved. I can’t wait and I hope it will be available on VIKI.

The trailer with English subs is here.

Nam Goon Min is reunited in this drama with two of his costars – Kim Ji Eun from The Veil and Lee Chung Ah from Awaken. I loved them in The Veil and Awaken, so I’m delighted to have both of them in this drama.

The article about HBO’s OZ

'Are these people f***ing crazy?': A 25th anniversary oral history of HBO's pioneering prison drama 'Oz'

Jeff Satur's songs

My opinion on the subject of singing in Thai BL dramas is “please, stop doing that”. :) I usually fast-forward through all the songs. There are two exceptions – NuNew in Cutie Pie, and lately also Jeff Satur. Funny thing is I didn’t really care for his singing in KinnPorsche, but I loved his songs from Ingredients and He, She, It. My two favorites are:

Another heatwave is here, damn. I thought we were done with those this year, but apparently not. Add to that a few minor health problems that just had to happen at the same time. Grrrr...

Fortunately I have plenty of good dramas and fanworks to cheer me up, so I’m making this a rec post.

I finally started Extraordinary Attorney Woo – a kdrama about a lawyer with autism spectrum disorder. It is as good as everybody said it was. I saw the first two episodes and I already love it. Park Eun Bin is fantastic, the other actors are great, too, it’s well written, and it’s adorable and heartwarming and optimistic. I wholeheartedly recommend it after just these two episodes.

Another drama recommendations is The Eclipse – a Thai BL from the genre I call “a respected and exclusive school hides a dark secret”. The Gifted was from the same genre. I was supposed to wait until all the episodes air before watching, but I didn’t have anything else to watch so I started it already last week. And that was a bad idea. ;) Because I enjoy it a lot. And only two episodes aired for now, and now it will be so hard to wait a week for each new episode.

The main couple is a classic enemies-to-lovers ship and I like them, but, and that is not surprising to me at all, I’m already head over heels with the secondary couple. Their names are Thua and Kan. Thua is openly gay and he clearly has a big crush on Kan. Kan, also very clearly, already has feelings for Thua, but he’s deeply in denial about it. He’s all “I’m so straight, see how many girls like me, please don’t joke about Thua being my boyfriend, somebody might get the wrong impression.” Which is absolutely the right impression, seriously. :) But he always protects Thua, and he’s not an asshole, which is so nice.

The Eclipse is on Youtube and here is the link to the 1st episode.

Thua and Kan are played by Louis Thanawin and Neo Trai Nimtawat, and they both so great and have such fantastic chemistry, that I also started watching another BL Fish Upon The Sky for them, where they also play the secondary couple. I watched four episodes for now, but I don’t know if I will watch more despite my newfound love for Neo and Louis. I have to fast-forward a lot – the main couple doesn’t work for me at all, there is a lot of cringy humor, and Neo’s character is very annoying.

So those were my drama recs, now let’s move to fanworks recs.

Don’t you just hate that thing when you’ve read the most perfect fic for your newest fascination and you check the author’s profile to see what else they wrote, and disappointingly find out that this perfect fic is the only fic the author wrote? For me it happened once with a Vincenzo fic. And now for the 2nd time with a KinnPorsche fic.

I’m talking about Machine Gun Kick, which is a fantastic almost 15.000 words long post-canon fic from Porsche’s POV. But in this case luckily for me the author decided to expanded it into a series of post-canon stories, and wrote three more long, fantastic fics in it from the POVs of Pete, Kim and Kinn. And I dearly hope there will be more. I don’t want to check my AO3 history for number of times I’ve read those four fics, because I’m sure that number is embarrassingly high. :)

You know what I was watching lately? A long commercial for a grocery chain in Thailand. And you know what? I loved it. :)

It’s true – TOPS, the Thai grocery chain, made a commercial in the form of 21 episodes of the BL web drama called “Ingredients” with Jeff Satur and Gameplay Garnapaphon as the leads. And it’s a sweet and fluffy slice-of-life roommates-to-friends-to-lovers story. Each episode is around 10-15 minutes long. The playlist with English subs is here on youtube.

The whole plot is basically about Tops (Gameplay’s character), who’s studying to be a chef, preparing different dishes in each episode, and Win (Jeff Satur’s character) eating it. And in the meantime they fall in love of course. :)

Advertising part means that Tops prepares all the food from ingredients bought in TOPS supermarket. But it’s done so naturally and unobtrusively that it doesn’t even feel like a commercial. I mean, I fast-forwarded through the more egregious product placement in BL dramas plenty of times, because it made me cringe in second-hand embarrassment. But here I watched 21 episodes without pressing a fast-forward button even once.

Jeff Satur and Gameplay have great chemistry. They are both very pretty and good actors, too. I read that Gameplay was supposed to play Chay in KinnPorsche and damn, I wish he did. I would be so into Kim/Chay then instead of finding them boring. :)

As an incentive for watching behind the cut there are two gifs from my favorite episode 12. It’s so adorable and funny that I watched it three times already. It always makes me laugh out loud. And there is a cute cat in it (it’s Gameplay’s real life cat).

After Ingredients I was so starved for more Jeff/Gameplay content that I watched He, She, It. It’s a very short (just 3 episodes each around 15 minutes long) horror BL drama. I watched all of it, but I don’t know if I can say that I enjoyed it. Horror is usually not my thing, and Jeff’s character Mike is an unlikable asshole here. Spoilers here. ) But I’m sure horror lovers, who don’t mind the spoiler mentioned above, will appreciate this one more than I do. :)

He, She, It is also on Youtube with English subs. Here’s the link to part one.

Before I start raving about Lee Joon in Bulgasal again, a quick information about Hu Yitian and Zhang Yunlong’s new drama Checkmate. It's supposed to start airing on iQiyi in August. I think. And I found this short Making of Special on Youtube. It looks good and slashy already. I’m all prepared to ship their characters again. :)

And now let’s commence with my raving about Lee Joon in Bulgasal Immortal Souls, with spoilers and gifs, and fanvid recs.

After I finished Bulgasal I started The Silent Sea, because Lee Joon plays one of main characters here, too. I’ve watched three episodes already and for now I like it. It’s a bit boring at times, but I’m intrigued by the main mystery enough to keep watching, and two other main characters are played by Bae Doo Na and Gong Yoo, who are both reliably good.

I read this meta on AO3 and I have thoughts about KinnPorsche that aren’t about Vegas/Pete. Shocking, I know. ;)

This meta gives KinnPorsche writers more credit than they deserve IMO, but it’s interesting and I agree with some parts of it.

More with spoilers below.

I was disappointed with Vampire Detective, but I will still be forever grateful to this drama because it introduced me to the beauty and the acting talent of Lee Joon. And that gave me motivation to give Bulgasal Immortal Souls a second chance. Because I did watch the first two episodes as soon as this drama started airing on Netflix, and I was so bored that I dropped it. But I knew Lee Joon played villain in Bulgasal (he appears for the first time in the 4th episode), so I decided, after finishing Vampire Detective, to try again. And oh my God, I’m so happy that I did. I still don’t really care about the male lead’s angst and manpain (there is even a fridged wife, because of course there is). But Lee Joon is amazing and terrifying and hot as hell as the main villain. I’m sure I was making heart-eyes every time he was on screen in the 4th episode. And the male lead definitely has more chemistry with him than with the female lead IMO. There was even a homoerotic non-con blood drinking already (Bulgasal from the title is the name of a monster that has to drink blood to survive), which I predictably loved. It’s like this drama gives me what Vampire Detective didn’t. :)

I have to go to Warsaw tomorrow and I don’t wanna. Ugh... I don’t want to think about it, so let’s talk about dramas instead.

Triage finale was a bit disappointing. Partly because I built up expectations too much during the whole week of waiting. That’s why now I prefer to wait unit the whole drama airs before watching. I think that I wouldn’t judge the finale so harshly if I watched it right after the 12th episode. Or like a day after at most. But it was also disappointing because they tried to cram too many things into this one episode, and too many characters had to carry the idiot ball for the plot to move forward.

But in general I really liked this drama and I’m glad that I watched it. And AO3 tag for Triage is finally canonized, yay! And there are already two sweet Sing/Gap post-finale fics there.

I’m still obsessed with Vegas/Pete – that obsession won’t be going away for a while. And compared to my other Asian drama fandoms KinnPorsche fandom is big. There are so many fics already. And after the finale around 40 new fics are posted daily – and I’m talking only about fics for this pairing, because that’s the only tag I check regularly.

I want to squee with other fans, but I guess the fandom is mainly on twitter and discord. And, unfortunately for me, I can’t do fandom on these platforms. I even glanced at the tumblr tag a few times, and there are sometimes interesting posts there, like this one about the pronouns and honorifics Vegas and Pete use for each other and how they change through the drama. But there are also a lot of stupid people there, and I’m too tired for that right now.

But I do have a few more fanvid recs, they are all for Vegas/Pete of course. :)

Set Fire To The Rain

I'll Be Good

Psycho Too – this one is NSFW and you have to be signed in to watch it.

And I missed watching kdramas, so I started Vampire Detective while I was waiting for the last episode of KinnPorsche to air. I liked it for the first 5 episodes. Then it started to get boring. What was a point of making the main character a vampire? It barely even matters while the main trio solves cases, and those cases usually have nothing to do with the main mystery about vampires in this drama. Don’t get me wrong, I like normal crime dramas, too. But here I was promised a crime drama with vampires, and Vampire Detective didn’t really delivered on that promise IMO. :)

But it’s short, only 12 episodes, and I have only the last two episodes to watch, and I can stare at two very beautiful people while watching, so I will finish it. Those beautiful people are: Lee Chung Ah, whom I admired before in Awaken, and the male lead played by Lee Joon, whom I’ve never seen in anything else, but he is really super hot, and a good actor. He also plays a villain in Bulgasal: Immortal Souls, so I think this is what I will be watching next. And then later probably Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which is on Netflix here. I like Park Eun Bin and I heard only good things about this drama.

Forget about being a tiny bit obsessed. My obsession with Vegas/Pete is in a full bloom. Their relationship is so fucked up and angsty and dark. I love it so much, and I’m so sorry that there is only one episode left and there are so many things to resolve, because they won’t dedicate a lot of time to Pete and Vegas for sure. And I would gladly watch the whole episode just about them.

I knew I would love Vegas/Pete, but after the 11th episode I think I might be even a tiny bit obsessed? :) That episode was very good for my id. Their relationship is so beautifully fucked-up and I love it.

And it got me thinking – are you good at predicting which character and ship will you love in something you haven’t watched yet, just based on spoilers and osmosis? Because I’m very good at it and I’m very rarely wrong, especially when it comes to ships. From what I remember I was wrong only once. I went into the cinema to watch the 1st Nu Trek movie convinced that I would ship Spock/Kirk for sure, and I came out with Spock/Uhura as my Nu Trek OTP.

And one more thing - AO3, please canonize the fandom tag for Triage, will you? There are already three fics there (at least that’s how many fics I was able to find), it should be enough to mark the tag common. I want to be able to make a filter and add it to my bookmarks.

Triage will be the perfect fandom for Yuletide this year. I already want to request all the Sing/Gap fics, since we got so little time devoted to them in the drama. I think KinnPorsche, at the rate it’s going, will be too big for Yuletide when the nominations open. Pity, I would love to request all the Vegas fics, too. :)

Kdramas

I watched the 1st episode od Our Blues. Objectively I recognize that it’s a well written and very well acted drama, but I didn’t care for any of the characters, so I probably won’t watch more.

From upcoming kdrama I’m mainly interested in Adamas – the story of twin brothers who try to uncover the truth about a murder that happened 22 years ago. Ji Sung plays both twins, and I’m sure he will be wonderful. The teaser is here on youtube

It’s still too hot here. Right now it’s 8:30 p.m. and it’s 29°C outside. Gah... But like I’ve said before I have my way of coping, and it’s watching BL dramas. :) Since yesterday I managed to watch 4 episode of KinnPorsche and two episodes of Bad Buddy.

If someone asked me a week ago which of these two dramas I think I would like more after I watched them - the one about a romance between a mafia boss and his bodyguard or the one about two students from two rival families, who become friends and then fall in love - of course I would say the mafia one. Adult people doing adult things in a high heat drama sounds exactly like my thing. And yet, for now something isn’t clicking for me with KinnPorsche. It's OTT and ridiculous, but not in the way I enjoy that much. For instance Cutie Pie was also OTT and ridiculous, but that ridiculousness I enjoyed a lot. And I find Tankhun so annoying, I had to fast-forward through almost all the scenes with him, because I can’t stand him. But I will watch the rest of the drama for sure. Kinn/Porsche is ok, I like them both just fine. And I already know that I will ship Vegas/Pete hard. Vegas is a hot psychopath and Pete is sweet and cute – it’s exactly my kind of pairing. :)

So, yes, of these two drama I like Bad Buddy so much more. It is adorable. And it makes me laugh so much. And to think I wouldn’t have watched it if I haven’t seen and loved Nanon in The Gifted. For now I like all the characters, but I especially adore Pran, because Nanon is so good and pretty.

And now I’m going to go and watch a few more episodes and pray that the temperature drops at least to 25 degrees soon. :)

Tuesday, June 28th, 2022 08:35 pm
Heatwave is here and I’m dying. Well, not really, but it feels like it sometimes. :) It’s supposed to get a bit colder next week and I hope that’s true. My poor heart doesn’t do well in such weather.

So what do I do to distract myself? Watch more BL dramas of course. :)

The last one I watched was Paint With Love. It’s about an uptight perfectionist – a chairman of a small media agency, who needs to learn to loosen up a little, and a free-spirited artist who can help him do that.

I didn’t hear much about this drama when it was airing, I guess it wasn’t popular. But I was impressed with Tae Darvid’s acting in Triage and wanted to see him in something else.

This drama is not the best, I would say in general it’s rather mediocre, but surprisingly I enjoyed it a lot. At least for the first nine episodes (which I watched in two days), the last three bored me with a completely unnecessary drama based on a stupid misunderstanding and not talking to each other. So I fast-forwarded a lot to get to the happy ending.

The second half of the main pairing is played by Singto Prachaya, who was in a lot of Bl dramas, but whom I haven’t seen in anything before. He was good here, and he’s very pretty.

In other good BL news – Plus & Minus is getting a special episode that will be released on July 7th. Yay!

I watched a lot of dramas lately. Because as soon as I decided to take three days off work to just relax a little at home my body said “hmm, I think it’s time for another dosage of pain in the right shoulder”. *sigh* So writing was out of the question, and scrolling a lot, too. Thankfully it’s much better today, that’s why I’m able to write this post. :)

So here is what I watched since my last post.

Triage

I recklessly watched all 10 available episodes. :) Recklessly because now I’m dying from impatience waiting for the last three episodes to air. Because I love it. It reminds me of Manner of Death and Not Me – there is the main plot, here about the shady medical practices and mysterious deaths, and with a time loop, and the romance is secondary to all that. There are two couples – the main couple is ok, I like them just fine, but I adore the secondary couple, despite them having only a few short scenes. I hope we’ll get at least a confession of feelings for them. But a kiss would be very nice, too. :)

I would love for more people to watch it and squee with me, but unfortunately I can’t link to the official source for this drama. They do this thing when each new episode is available for the international audience on Youtube only for two hours on Monday between 11pm -1am Bangkok Time. It’s in the evening for me so I was able to download all the available episodes as soon as they appeared each Monday, because I knew I would like to watch it one day. But it means that right now this drama it’s not easily available with English subs anywhere.

Theory of Love

Yes, I decided to watch it after all. And I did watch all of it despite not really liking it that much. That’s the power of Gun’s acting I guess. :) He was as always wonderful and beautiful and I am still very much in love with him. And I did enjoy the 1st episode a lot. And all that gave me the motivation to finish this drama.

More with spoilers below.

Plus and Minus

Królowa

I also watched a new Polish show on Netflix – Królowa (Queen) with Andrzej Seweryn as the main character. He plays Silvestre Bork, who lives in Paris, and who is an exclusive and expensive tailor by day, and a beloved drag queen Loretta by night. But before he came to France 50 years ago he was called Sylwester Borkowski and he lived in a small Polish mining town. Now Silvestre Bork wants to close his tailoring business and retire, but an unexpected letter from Poland from the granddaughter he didn’t even know he had makes him change his plans, and return to that small town he left so many years ago.

It’s decently written and very well acted. But I mostly liked it because it’s such an optimistic and heartwarming story about people being generally good and doing the right thing. Especially because there was the Pride Parade in Warsaw yesterday, and I was avoiding the news all day. Really not in the mood for a lot of good old Polish homophobia. I’ll take this nice little fantasy about small Polish town being super accepting and tolerant instead, please and thank you. :)

RL is pretty tiring lately, not just work, other things, too. That’s why I’m so grateful that I have a new fascination, which lets me forgets all the problems in the evenings.

I decided to wait for KinnPorsche to finish airing before watching it, the same with Old Fashioned Cupcake, which just started airing on VIKI. And I put Plus and Minus on back burner for now, too. Because for now I watch only dramas with Gun Atthaphan. As is my wont when I fall head over heels with a new actor. :)

Well, ok, I lied. I did managed to tear myself away from Gun’s dramas for long enough to watch the first two episodes of Triage – that medical BL drama with a time-loop. And I liked it. I will watch the rest later for sure.

Now I will ramble for a bit about Gun’s dramas I watched, mainly The Gifted and Secret Love: Puppy Honey (with minor spoilers and with a picspam from Puppy Honey), so to spare anyone who isn’t interested it goes behind the cut. :)

I’m very in love right now. Gun is seriously so, so good in the dual role of twins who have a very special and powerful connection in Not Me. I re-watched episodes 9-14 more than once. Or rather I re-watched all the Black scenes more than once. :)

I already liked Gun as White, and I enjoyed the rest of the drama, too. But then in the 9th episode Black woke up from his coma and he marched straight into my heart. And I fell completely in love with him and with Gun’s acting right there. He is so amazing. He’s completely different as Black. White and Black look the same, they were similar clothes and they have the same haircut, but you can clearly see that Black is a different person – that cold look in his eyes, his body language, the way he speaks. It’s beautiful to watch.

Black is violent, aggressive and angry at the world. And very protective of his brother. It’s fascinating to me that despite them being twins and Black being only three minutes older they have this dynamic since childhood of a tough, protective older brother and a vulnerable and weak younger brother. White even calls his twin “Phi” or “P’Black”.

Complicated and deeply loving sibling relationships are one of my favorite things in fiction, and Black and White’s relationship is like tailor-made for me. I read all even half-way decent fics on AO3 tagged “Black & White” at least twice.

Here have a mini picspam of Black being hot and mostly angry (apart from the last pic when he is smiling at his brother, aka the only person Black ever smiles at :)).

I really wanted to watch something else Gun did. At first I thought about Theory of Love, but everything I’ve read about it made it sound like very much not my thing. So I started The Gifted – a supernatural thriller (and not BL) about a school with a "Gifted Program" that holds a class for a handful of "special" students that were chosen by the school administrator. Each student has a different power and they have to learn how to deal with it and learn how to avoid negative consequences. And you know what? I love it. It’s an ensemble drama, so Gun’s character Punn had one episode focused on him and he is more a supporting character in the rest of the episodes. But I got very invested in most of the main characters so I wasn’t bothered by the lack of Gun’s scenes. :)

It has 13 episodes and I have only the last two left to watch. But there is the sequel called The Gifted: Graduation, so that’s what I will be watching next. Both dramas are available officially on Youtube with English subs. The playlist for The Gifted is here.

I finished Not Me. It was a very good drama – well written, well directed and very well acted. I’m especially impressed with Gun Atthaphan Phunsawat. He was great here. I’m thinking about trying one of his other dramas later. Maybe Theory of Love? But first KinnPorsche. And then Why R U for Zee Pruk. And then two Japanese BL dramas, because I find it so amusing that three main actors from Kamen Rider Build went and did BL dramas later. Inukai Atsuhiro of course did A Man Who Defies the World of BL. And Kei x Yaku if you count it as BL. And then Akaso Eiji (who was so wonderful and funny and cute as Banjou Ryuga) did Cherry Magic, which I previously wasn’t interested in, but now I am. And Takeda Kouhei (Sawatari Kazumi) did Old Fashioned Cupcake, which will premiere in June. This drama has a trailer released by Rakuten TV channel on Youtube, so it will most likely be on VIKI. The trailer is here. It looks sweet (pun intended :)).

I also would like to say that Kamen Rider Build itself was very shippy. And I ship Kiryu Sento/Banjou Ryuga hard. They are a great example of antagonists (or at least guys who don’t like each other much at first) to best friends, who love each other and motivate each other, and inspire each other to be a better person. It’s seriously so touching and adorable. As soon as I have a bit more time (maybe on weekend) I plan to dive into AO3 and read some fanfic.

And one more things – a fascinating article on MyDramaList about the processes and techniques of forensic art in the drama Under the Skin. And if you watched it and thought that what Shen Yi did in the drama was exaggerated or impossible – it wasn’t. It’s based on real accomplishments of real life police profilers and portrait artists in China.

Fanvid rec

A fantastic Hanabusa Shiro (Kei x Yaku) fanvid – Criminal

Max and Tul’s cameo in Triage

It was super cute and I watched their scene three times already.

Cutie Pie

The finale was very sweet. All the drama from the previous episode was solved in the first 15 minutes by Lian and Kuea finally having the talk they should have had in like episode 3 or 4. :) The rest of the episode was devoted to fluff and sweetness, and a heartfelt appeal for marriage equality in Thailand.

Kamen Rider Build

It’s a Japanese drama I started some time ago when I was going through Inukai Atsuhiro withdrawal after Kei x Yaku.

To quote Wikipedia: “Kamen Rider is a Japanese media franchise consisting of tokusatsu (a Japanese term for live action film or television drama that makes heavy use of practical special effects) television programs, films, and manga, created by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. Kamen Rider media generally features a motorcycle-riding superhero with an insect motif who fights supervillains.”

There are a lot of dramas in this franchise, but every drama is basically a stand-alone, so I can watch this one without knowing anything about previous dramas. Inukai Atsuhiro plays the main character - a genius physicist Kiryu Sento, who becomes a superhero called Kamen Rider Build. I expected a silly and entertaining show and it is that for sure (I mean one of Kiryu Sento’s superhero personas is called RabbitTank Sparkling :D), what I didn’t expect was for it to give me so many feelings, and even make me teary-eyed once or twice. It’s an adorable and funny, and at times very touching story about friendship and found family, and people trying to do what’s right in difficult situations. It also has a lot of noisy fights between superheroes and supervillains in ridiculous costumes. And they break the fourth wall during the short segments at the beginning of each episode when they recap what happened in the previous episode, which I love. Those scenes are always hilarious and usually make me laugh out loud.

Killer and Healer

Lately I was in the mood for a Chinese crime drama again. First I tried a modern crime drama Be Reborn, but the younger of the two main actors was really bad. He’s an idol I think, but IMO he can’t act at all. I managed maybe 20 minutes and I dropped it.

And then I started Killer and Healer, and that one is more to my taste. I watched 6 episodes for now and I like it. It is a historical crime drama taking place during the Republican era, around 1930. The two main characters are a violent and impulsive police officer Jiang Yuelou and a gentle doctor Chen Yuzhi. It’s based on a BL novel and yes, it’s very shippy right from the start. There are quite a lot of fics on AO3, so I will have something to read when I’m done watching the drama. :)

Cutie Pie

Ah, my perfect mind candy, so ridiculous and so entertaining. There was of course completely unnecessary last minute drama in the next to last episode to delay the inevitable happy ending. But I don’t care, I enjoy it so much. The actors are all very pretty, kisses and sex scenes are scorching hot, and all very consensual, which is nice to see in a BL drama.

There isn’t much fanfic and there’s even less that I find readable. So yeah, I started reading RPF, too, not that there’s much RPF for this fandom either.

I’m still kinda boggling that I got so invested in this silly, tropey and not very well written drama. Usually I’m pretty good at predicting what could be my next fandom. Here I was completely taken by surprise. :)

Not Me

I watched two more episodes of Not Me, and I’m more invested now that I was after the first two episodes, but I don’t think I will get fannish about this drama. And this one is good. But I admit that I have to suspend my disbelief a little, because White is so completely unprepared for pretending to be his twin in front of Black’s friends. I watched just four episodes and there were already a few situations when someone says to White “remember what you told us about?” And White is all “?????” and eventually someone else will always conveniently repeat what Black said, and White will be saved. I get that even if they think that Black is behaving weirdly they won’t jump straight to “it’s not Black, it’s his secret twin” conclusion, but still it bothers me a bit that White gets away with it so easily. But not enough to stop watching for now.

And when I’m done with Not Me I think I will start KinnPorsche. It looks exactly like another tropey fun I will enjoy and maybe even get fannish about.

Plus and Minus

I like this drama so much. And again I’m a bit sorry that I started watching it before all the episodes aired. Because now after watching one 25 minutes long episode I have to wait a week for the next one. Oh the misery… ;) And I loved the 5th episode so much. I already watched it twice. The main couple is still in the “pining on one side and obliviousness on the other side” stage, but the secondary couple moves with the speed of light, so to speak. :) There was already acknowledging of mutual feelings.

And there was a wonderful cameo at the end of the last episode.

More with spoilers below.

Triage

It’s a new Thai medical BL drama with a time loop. And apparently I have to start watching it. ;) It’s adapted from the web novel by the same author who wrote Manner of Death. I’ve read that both books are set in the same medical universe. And guess what? Max and Tul had a cameo as Tan and Bun in the 4th episode. Yay! Unfortunately that drama isn’t available anywhere officially with English subs, so I have to look for unofficial sources.

I have writer’s block. I still haven’t done anything with that new SCI fic which is in dire need of editing. I have a few fics started that I would love to work on. I have 800 words of a Vincenzo fic, 200 words of an Under the Skin fic, and a few vague plot bunnies for Cutie Pie fics (I’m still bewildered that this is the next BL drama I got obsessed with; seriously self, why? 😉). But every time I sit down to write it feels like my brain is suddenly completely empty. It will pass, I know, but for now it is so frustrating.

As for drama watching this week - I finished Thai Tunnel. It was very good and I loved it almost as much as I loved the Korean original.

I also watched Move to Heaven – a relatively short (just 10 episodes) Korean drama about a young man with Asperger syndrome who works with his father in the trauma cleaning family business called Move to Heaven. Their job is to clean up and move stuff of the deceased. When the father dies suddenly from the heart attack, Han Geu Roo has to deal with his never seen before uncle Cho Sang Gu moving in to be his caretaker.

It’s a wonderfully written and beautifully acted tender and poignant story about life, death, family and friendship. It made me cry at least once an episode, and it warmed my heart.

Han Geu Roo is played by Tang Jun Sang, whom I saw and loved first in Crash Landing On You, and then in Racket Boys. He is such an amazing actor despite being so young. It’s really hard to believe that he’s just 19 years old. I for sure will watch every drama he will do next.

Cho Sang Gu is played by Lee Je Hoon, whom I saw in Signal before. I liked him in Signal, but I fell completely in love with him while watching this drama. He’s fantastic. It makes me want to watch Taxi Driver just for him. It is on Netflix here, but I’ve read that it’s very dark and grim, and I’m not sure if I’m in the mood for something like that right now. Maybe I’ll try the 1st episode this weekend and then we’ll see.

And I’m going to end this post with two song recs.

Park Jae Chan from Semantic Error is a member of the South Korean boy band group DKZ, so I listened to a few of their songs and I liked them a lot. Here are my favorites:

Lupin (the stage version)

Cupid (the official MV)

Let’s talk about three Thai BL dramas first. They are all available on Youtube.

Not Me

I watched two episodes. It’s very political starting right away in the 1st episode. So after watching those episodes I read a few articles about the current political situation in Thailand. Pretty depressing reading I have to say. I don’t know if I want so much depressing real life stuff in something I watch to escape from depressing stuff in my own RL. Maybe I’ll watch one or two episodes more and then will decide if I want to watch the rest.

Don’t get me wrong, I like it when a BL drama does something else than the usual romance plot, and Not Me looks like a good, well-acted drama, but I think I’m just not in the right mood to enjoy it right now.

Cutie Pie

In contrast to a very political Not Me, Cutie Pie is a tropey and silly drama about an arranged marriage and secret identities and a conflict that could be avoided if interested parties just talked to each other, and the constant dithering of the “he says he loves me but does he really?” kind. And it applies to both the main couple and the secondary couple. Although with the secondary couple it’s more the dithering of “if he could just say what he really feels” kind. :)

I’m kinda ashamed that I like it so much. :) But to me this drama is perfect escapist fun I need right now. I can turn off my brain and just enjoy it. And I find Zee (one half of the main couple) stupidly hot. And there are a few really nice and passionate kisses, and a very hot sex scene in the beginning of the episode 8.

Here have four gifs of two kisses in the episode 7.

Dear Doctor, I’m Coming for Soul

It’s about a romance between a talented surgeon dedicated to saving people’s lives and a soul reaper. Five episodes aired for now and I watched them all. It’s ok, but nothing special. I liked it well enough that I plan to watch the rest, but I’m not really that invested.

One good thing that came out of it is that I got curious about one of the main actors and checked what else he’s done, and discovered that he had a supporting part in the Thai version of the Korean drama Tunnel. And since I loved Korean Tunnel I decided to check the Thai version (it’s on Netflix here). It’s a very faithful adaption, I watched 10 episodes out of 16 for now and I only noticed a few minor differences. But all the actors are very good and I love this version, too. And especially I love the same two characters I loved the most in the Korean original – the detective from the present time and the psychology professor that helps the police to solve cases.

And now a little bit about a new Taiwanese BL drama.

Plus and Minus

The main couple is a classic friends to lovers story. Zheng Ze Shou and Fu Li Gong are good friends who know each other since kindergarten. Not only are they childhood friends, right now they are roommates and they even work as lawyers for the same company.

The secondary couple is a divorced laundromat owner who single-handedly raises his daughter and a hot bartender from the pub in the same building.

There are three episodes available on VIKI for now and I watched them all, and I enjoy it a lot, too.
